[Termes IGN] similitudeRésumé : (Auteur) To help users discover the most relevant spatial datasets in the ever-growing global spatial data infrastructures (SDIs), a number of similarity measures of geospatial data based on metadata have been proposed. Researchers have assessed the similarity of geospatial data according to one or more characteristics of the geospatial data. They created different similarity algorithms for each of the selected characteristics and then combined these elementary similarities to the overall similarity of the geospatial data. The existing combination methods are mainly linear and may not be the most accurate. This paper reports our experiences in attempting to learn the optimal non-linear similarity integration functions, from the knowledge of experts, using an artificial neural network. First, a multiple-layer feed forward neural network (MLFFN) was created. Then, the intrinsic characteristics were used to represent the metadata of geospatial data and the similarity algorithms for each of the intrinsic characteristics were built. The training and evaluation data of MLFFN were derived from the knowledge of domain experts. Finally, the MLFFN was trained, evaluated, and compared with traditional linear combination methods, which was mainly a weighted sum. The results show that our method outperformed the existing methods in terms of precision. Moreover, we found that the combination of elementary similarities of experts to the overall similarity of geospatial data was not linear. [Termes IGN] service web géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Geospatial data catalogs enable users to discover and access geographical information. Prevailing solutions are document oriented and fragment the spatial continuum of the geospatial data into independent and disconnected resources described through metadata. Due to this, the complete answer for a query may be scattered across multiple resources, making its discovery and access more difficult. This paper proposes an improved information retrieval process for geospatial data catalogs that aggregates the search results by identifying the implicit spatial/thematic relations between the metadata records of the resources. These aggregations are constructed in such a way that they match better the user query than each resource individually. [Termes IGN] utilisateurRésumé : (auteur) The increasing amount of spatial data demands effective and efficient methods for managing them in spatial data infrastructures (SDIs). Metadata standards have been developed in response to the needs of data custodians who manage these ever-growing resources and in recognition of the end users’ need for easy access and discovery of spatial data. Data custodians prepare metadata records and allow SDIs to harvest them. The harvesting can be undertaken through metadata standards or data service standards. The metadata updating processes are not efficient and, therefore, create a disjoint between the data and its metadata. As a result, end users cannot realize the full potential of metadata records. In addressing this issue, the paper presents an automatic spatial metadata system with a suite of functions including metadata monitoring, enrichment, and maintenance to enable the data custodians to manage the integrity of their metadata records in SDIs. These functions have been demonstrated and reviewed through a case study in the Australian Urban Infrastructure Network (AURIN). Using these functions, AURIN’s data custodians have been able to offer over 1200 coherent and consistent spatial metadata records to end users. [Termes IGN] web des donnéesRésumé : (auteur) Academic libraries have always supported research across disciplines by integrating access to diverse contents and resources. They now have the opportunity to reinvent their role in facilitating interdisciplinary work by offering researchers new ways of sharing, curating, discovering, and linking research data. Spatial data and metadata support this process because location often integrates disciplinary perspectives, enabling researchers to make their own research data more discoverable, to discover data of other researchers, and to integrate data from multiple sources. The Center for Spatial Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) and the UCSB Library are undertaking joint research to better enable the discovery of research data and publications. The research addresses the question of how to spatially enable data discovery in a setting that allows for mapping and analysis in a GIS while connecting the data to publications about them. It suggests a framework for an integrated data discovery mechanism and shows how publications may be linked to associated data sets exposed either directly or through metadata on Esri's Open Data platform. The results demonstrate a simple form of linking data to publications through spatially referenced metadata and persistent identifiers. This linking adds value to research products and increases their discoverability across disciplinary boundaries. Note de contenu : Introduction
