[Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (Auteur) This paper is concerned with building up methodological guidelines for modelling urban land-use change through Geographical Information Systems, remote sensing imagery and Bayesian probabilistic methods. A medium-sized town in the west of Sào Paulo State, Bauru, was adopted as a case study. Its urban structure was converted into a 100m x 100m resolution grid and transition probabilities were calculated for each grid cell by means of the 'weights of evidence' statistical method and upon the basis of the information related to the technical infrastructure and socio-economic aspects of the town. The probabilities obtained from there fed a cellular automaton simulation model-DINAMICA-developed by the Centre for Remote Sensing of the Federal University of Minas Gerals (CSR-UFNIG), based on stochastic transition algorithms. Different simulation outputs for the case study town in the period 1979-1988 were generated, and statistical validation tests were then conducted for the best results, employing a multiple resolution fitting procedure. This modelling experiment revealed the plausibility of adopting Bavesian empirical methods based on the available knowledge of technical infrastructure and socio-economic status to simulate urban land-use change. It indicates their possible further applicability for generating forecasts of growth trends both for Brazilian cities and cities world-wide. [Termes IGN] précision géométrique (imagerie)Résumé : (Auteur) Earth observation data are becoming available at increasingly finer resolutions. Sensors already in existence (IKONOS, Quickbird, SPOT 5, Orbview) or due to be launched in the near future will reach 1-5 m resolution. These very high resolution (VHR) data will provide more details of the urban areas, but it seems evident that they will create additional problems in terms of information extraction using automatic classification. In this framework, this paper examines the potential of the spectral/textural approach to improve the classification accuracy of intra-urban land cover types. The utility of the textural analysis was measured in comparison with multi-spectral per-pixel classifications. Haralick's second-order statistics were applied to the co-occurrence matrix. Four texture indices with six window sizes created from panchromatic images were tested on images at high to very high resolutions (10-1 m). The results show that the optimal index improving the global classification accuracy is the homogeneity measure, with a 7 x 7 window size. Moreover, for 1 m images, texture measure of homogeneity allows one to decrease the shadows. [Termes IGN] variabilitéRésumé : (auteur) The automatic classification of urban materials from airborne and spatial acquisitions remains difficult today because of two main reasons: the spatial resolution of the images and the need for pre-processing algorithms to extract ground surface intrinsic properties. This work examines the feasibility of using 8 spectral information distributed in the visible and the near-infrared spectral regions (0.4 - 1 μm), acquired at a 20 cm spatial resolution, for recognizing the urban materials. The motivation for this study is the development of very high spatial resolution sensors which has introduced a promising capability for the study of urban areas. In this study , an experiment campaign took place in Toulouse. The airborne measurements were carried out using 8 cameras associated with 8 narrow filters (30 nm). Ground spectral measurements of Toulouse's urban materials were performed within the configuration of the airborne acquisitions. These measurements allow us to determine and quantify three types of reflectance spatial variability. The results show that urban materials have low reflectances with no significant spectral features and are then difficult to discriminate. To determine which material classes could be discriminate over the 8 spectral bands of the airborne acquisitions, a statistical analysis was performed on the ground measurements. This analysis highlights that 5 material classes could be discriminated from good quality measurements. [...] The product of ALS is a cloud of points in 3D space. ALS is capable of delivering very dense and accurate point clouds of a landscape in a relatively short time. [...] However, the automatic detection and interpretation of individual objects remains a challenge. [...] Several algorithms have been developed to automatically detect the bare earth in ALS point clouds. An experimental study of filtering algorithms determined that in flat and uncomplicated landscapes, algorithms tend to do well. Significant differences in accuracies of filtering appear in landscapes containing steep slopes and discontinuties. These differences are a result of the ability of algorithms to preserve discontinuties while detecting large objects. A solution for this problem was determined to lie in the segmentation of ALS point clouds. If segmentation can be achieved in such a manner that all bare earth points are gathered into their own surface segments, then filtering can be done on the basis of surfaces rather than points. This should offer a more reliable classification since topological information can be used in addition to geometric information to classify surface segments. On the strenght of the study, a new segmentation based filtering algorithm was developed.
