In addition to the classical differential processing approach, the Precise Point Positioning (PPP) method is able to derive station coordinates with the same accuracy as a baseline setup, when sufficient observation time is available. The basis for PPP is the improved quality of external products for the GNSS data processing, for example the orbit and especially the satellite clock products of the International GNSS Service (IGS) and its analysis centers.
The increased usage of GNSS comes along with higher demands on accuracy. Therefore, the modelling of important error sources in GNSS is continuously upgraded. Intensive research led to a refinement of both the functional and the stochastic model in GNSS data processing in order to enable the correction of specific error components, for example the antenna behaviour or the tropospheric delay. Despite of the improvements in GNSS modelling, multipath effects still remain as a main error source in highly precise GNSS positioning. Within this work, stacking techniques are used to correct for multipath effects and further site dependent errors, for example residual errors in the calibration values of the receiving GNSS antenna. The method developed in this work is based on zero difference PPP residuals, which are accumulated over defined azimuth-elevation cells and over a fixed period of time (here: 10 d) and introduced as correction (so-called stacking maps) in a second PPP processing run. The main purpose of this approach aims for the improvement of data, recorded on continuously operating reference stations.
Within this work, two scenarios for the implementation of the corrections were investigated in detail: the combination of the stacking maps joined with the calibration information of the GNSS receiving antennas and in contrast to this approach the separate modelling of both aspects in a separate file. In order to check the effectivity of this method, the results (e.g., coordinates, residuals) before and after the introduction of the stacking maps were intensively analyzed. Within the second scenario (introduction of the correction in a separate file), the behaviour of the stacking maps over time was investigated by the analysis of so-called sliding stacking maps. Sliding stacking maps are generated as follows: calculation of a first stacking map from the residuals for example for day of year (DoY) 121 to 130 and introduction as correction for DoY 131, the next stacking map is computed from the residuals for DoY 122 to 131 and introduced for DoY 132 and so on. Especially sites with poor data quality show a significant improvement of the residual values after the implementation of stacked information. Furthermore, observations remain in the used data set, whereas they were eliminated in the processing without the introduction of stacking maps.
In addition, the necessity of expensive, site-dependent individual antenna calibration was checked. The focus was on the compensating level of the stacking approach with respect to unmodelled antenna effects based on the replacement of individual receiving antenna calibrations by type mean values of the IGS in combination with stacking maps. Therefore, data of selected sites were processed using both the existing individual antenna calibration sets and the IGS type mean values. In a second processing run, the calibration sets were introduced taking the corresponding stacking information into account. Differences in the phase center variations of the antennas can be corrected by the stacking maps. Discrepancies due to differences in the phase center offsets remain in the estimated site coordinates.

[Termes IGN] traitement de données GNSSRésumé : (Auteur) The weighted total least squares (TLS) method has been developed to deal with observation equations, which are functions of both unknown parameters of interest and other measured data contaminated with random errors. Such an observation model is well known as an errors-in-variables (EIV) model and almost always solved as a nonlinear equality-constrained adjustment problem. We reformulate it as a nonlinear adjustment model without constraints and further extend it to a partial EIV model, in which not all the elements of the design matrix are random. As a result, the total number of unknowns in the normal equations has been significantly reduced. We derive a set of formulae for algorithmic implementation to numerically estimate the unknown model parameters. Since little statistical results about the TLS estimator in the case of finite samples are available, we investigate the statistical consequences of nonlinearity on the nonlinear TLS estimate, including the first order approximation of accuracy, nonlinear confidence region and bias of the nonlinear TLS estimate, and use the bias-corrected residuals to estimate the variance of unit weight. [Termes IGN] série temporelleRésumé : (Auteur) Since December 2008, the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites has been operationally distributing a global 25-km surface soil moisture product derived from the Advanced Scatterometer (ASCAT) onboard the meteorological operational platform (METOP) satellite METOP-A. Soil moisture is retrieved by using the semiempirical change detection method originally developed by the Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien) for the Active Microwave Instrument (AMI) flown on the European Remote Sensing (ERS) satellites ERS-1 and ERS-2. With the launch of the first of the three Meteorological Operational Platforms (METOP-A) in October 2006, ASCAT onboard METOP-A inherits and continues the role of his predecessor AMI. The original soil moisture retrieval algorithm (TU Wien model) was expected to be almost directly applicable for ASCAT with only minor changes, since the configuration and technical design is similar to the ERS scatterometers. Since the TU Wien model requires a robust historic long-term reference of scattering parameters, the initial near real-time METOP ASCAT soil moisture product had to rely on the model parameters derived from over 15 years of ERS-1/2. However, the combination of ASCAT backscatter measurements and ERS-1/2 historic long-term reference introduced some artifacts in the soil moisture product. The objectives of this paper were to analyze and investigate the impact of the ERS-1/2 historic long-term reference on the soil moisture retrieval. An error model has been developed to quantify the effects of the two main error sources: differences in spatial resolution and absolute calibration. The results of the study show that a simple model is able to describe the artifacts in the initial near real-time METOP ASCAT soil moisture product, which frequently occur in areas characterized by sharp backscatter contrasts. The expected overestimation of soil moisture using ERS-1/2 model parameters due to a calibration bias between AMI- and ASCAT could be modeled as well. [Termes IGN] modèle numérique de surfaceRésumé : (Auteur) A hybrid theoretical–empirical model has been developed for modelling the error in LiDAR-derived digital elevation models (DEMs) of non-open terrain. The theoretical component seeks to model the propagation of the sample data error (SDE), i.e. the error from light detection and ranging (LiDAR) data capture of ground sampled points in open terrain, towards interpolated points. The interpolation methods used for infilling gaps may produce a non-negligible error that is referred to as gridding error. In this case, interpolation is performed using an inverse distance weighting (IDW) method with the local support of the five closest neighbours, although it would be possible to utilize other interpolation methods. The empirical component refers to what is known as “information loss”. This is the error purely due to modelling the continuous terrain surface from only a discrete number of points plus the error arising from the interpolation process. The SDE must be previously calculated from a suitable number of check points located in open terrain and assumes that the LiDAR point density was sufficiently high to neglect the gridding error. For model calibration, data for 29 study sites, 200*200 m in size, belonging to different areas around Almeria province, south-east Spain, were acquired by means of stereo photogrammetric methods. The developed methodology was validated against two different LiDAR datasets. The first dataset used was an Ordnance Survey (OS) LiDAR survey carried out over a region of Bristol in the UK. The second dataset was an area located at Gador mountain range, south of Almería province, Spain. Both terrain slope and sampling density were incorporated in the empirical component through the calibration phase, resulting in a very good agreement between predicted and observed data (R2=0.9856;p Numéro de notice : A2010-233 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : IMAGERIE Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.1016/j.isprsjprs.2009.09.003 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1016/j.isprsjprs.2009.09.003 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=30427
