[Vedettes matières IGN] Inventaire forestierRésumé : (auteur) Introduction : Non-stationary forest dynamics of secular arising from the forest transition, and current agenda on climate change mitigation and valuation of wood resources (Bioeconomy), make the development of large-scale models crucial to support forest management strategies on these issues. French forests further exhibit significant contrasts in climatic context and diversity in tree species, challenging these developments. Based on the MARGOT model (Pignard, 1993; Wernsdörfer et al., 2012), we intend to model all the diversity of the French forest in a non-stationary context.Materials and methods: Using NFI data to both build reference historical chronologies of growing stock and estimate model parameters, we compared past retrospective projections of model MARGOT, constructed at different hierarchical scales representative of diversity of the French forests, with historical and modern database from the French NFI over a period of 40 years (1971-2011), to conduct model evaluation. We also performed a sensitivity analysis on the felling rates. Second step is to represent density-dependent processes in the model in order to better simulate forest management. Results: MARGOT was found to overestimate the growing stock trajectories, both on a regional and national scale. A sensitivity analysis on felling rates suggested their underestimation from the NFI protocol by a factor of 2, as a consequence of the temporary nature of sampling plots. Modelling of density-dependence was introduced and tested against former simulations.Conclusion: In spite of overestimations in the growing stock, MARGOT was found able to describe the French forest expansion, indicating that forest maturation is a key current process in these increases. Density-dependence was found to lower overestimations in the growing stock. A next step will consist in hybridizing Margot with a process-based model in order to account for climatic forcings. [Vedettes matières IGN] GéovisualisationRésumé : (auteur) This article presents exploratory research to develop new workflows that address the challenges of adequately capturing the geometry and topology of complex institutional spaces, the analysis of prescriptive evacuation plans, and the simulation of human movement and behavior in emergency scenarios. We present a collection of geovisual analytical environments that were developed to permit new ways to view and assess risk, evacuation, and human movement. Part of this research considers how different approaches to the representation of complex institutional space, using three-dimensional capture technologies at multiple resolutions (or derived from conventional formats, such as building plans), have implicit advantages or liabilities in the analysis of risk and human evacuation. We combine three-dimensional data capture methods with geographical information science theory, three-dimensional game engines, three-dimensional evacuation simulations and spatial analyses that address the variability of campus populations, and draw upon three-dimensional modeling and photogrammetry for the assessment of real-world features in digital space. The outcome of this research demonstrates agile workflows that address emergency planning requirements, but could also enable enhanced visual analysis and interactive learning by all campus citizens. Furthermore, this work reveals key considerations and limitations associated with the dynamic nature of evacuation events and the static environments in which they have been simulated. It considers a quadratic constraint which may appear in some problems of integrated direct geo-referencing in particular when INS data is used as system equations of a Kalman filter algorithm. In such a case one encounters with a dynamic errors-in-variables (DEIV) model for system equations, although DEIV model has been already considered for equations of the Kalman filter algorithm and a solution namely integrated total Kalman filter (ITKF) has been given to it. Also this algorithm can be simplified to unconstraint case which is useful for some problems. It considers DEIV model for both observation equations and system equations of the Kalman filter algorithm. The predicted residuals for all variables including the random noise at the first epoch, the observational noise, the random system noise and the corresponding noise of two coefficient matrixes (in the system equations and the observation equations) besides the variance matrix of the unknown parameters are obtained. In two numerical examples, integrated direct geo-referencing problem is solved for a GPS-INS system. [Vedettes matières IGN] GéovisualisationRésumé : (Auteur) Remote geovisualization has gained momentum to support large‐scale geospatial data analysis and complex decision‐making over the last few years. Cloud computing, due to its capabilities to deliver on‐demand computing resources, has been embraced to develop and deploy interactive and scalable remote geovisualization applications. However, current cloud computing frameworks do not offer a versatile resource management scheme that is readily applicable for online remote visualization services, which usually require maintaining a satisfactory service level over time under dynamic workloads. To address this gap, we propose an automatic cloud resource management approach based on a bi‐level scheduling and horizontal scaling scheme to exploit cloud resources efficiently. At the lower level, a dynamic task‐scheduling scheme using collaborative filtering techniques is proposed to allocate virtual cloud resources to execute sub‐tasks. The scheduling scheme considers spatio‐temporal patterns presented in visualization views. At the upper level, reinforcement learning is adopted to perform resource auto‐scaling based on a reward function that integrates three different facets, namely: time cost, resource cost, and service stability. The original reinforcement learning algorithm is improved in two main aspects: (1) considering the delay of resource provisioning that is common in cloud environments; and (2) using online Gaussian estimation to estimate Q values. Task scheduling and auto‐scaling interact with each other and are integrated to deliver a comprehensive and responsive resource management solution. Experimental results demonstrate that our approach outperforms several existing cloud resource management methods. The proposed approach is also applicable for other interactive visualization applications, which have similar workload characteristics and performance requirements as interactive remote geovisualization.
