The model is an extension of the IndoorGML standard navigation module with a twofold benefit: the extension facilitated the data import from the international standard CityGML and introduced the semantics of various fixtures in indoor space of buildings making the navigation model more suitable for human needs. Several experiments have been conducted by extracting networks from CityGML data and performing a comparison with other network construction techniques. The second contribution of the paper is an algorithm for the automatic extraction of the navigation network. Such an algorithm is a hybrid solution between medial axis approaches and visibility graph approaches. Normally, medial axes approaches are a good representation of human navigation in narrow corridors, especially to avoid obstacles, but introduce distortions in open space. On the other hand, visibility approaches work better in open spaces. In our extraction technique, the resulting network takes advantages of both approaches and better mimics human beings’ navigation in indoor environments. The evaluation of building patterns is a difficult spatial analysis problem that exhibits properties of symbolization, homogeneity and regularity. Open issues in this field include the development of approaches for representing building patterns and vector-based methods for computing various pattern metrics. In the image analysis domain, there are many methods for pattern recognition (e.g., texture analysis), but there are few corresponding solutions for vector data. The aim of this research is to develop several building pattern metrics and offer a texton co-occurrence matrix (TCM)-based method to quantitatively evaluate the features of building patterns. The procedure first constructs a spatial field based on a Delaunay triangulation skeleton to partition a set of buildings into a set of tessellation cells. The tessellations of building clusters have a similar structure as image representations, in that each cell corresponds to an image pixel. We then use the texton analysis to establish a matrix to describe the tessellation structure, including the neighboring relationships and individual attribute information. Finally, a set of feature descriptors is obtained from the TCM to capture the texture-related information of building groups. Through experiments on building pattern analysis and spatial queries, we show that the results of TCM-based evaluation of building patterns are consistent with those of human cognition. [Termes descripteurs IGN] système d'information foncièreRésumé : (auteur) The cadastral system provides land ownership information by registering and representing land boundaries on a map. The current cadastral system in Korea, however, focuses mainly on the management of 2D land-surface boundaries. It is not yet possible to provide efficient or reliable land administration, as this 2D system cannot support or manage land information on 3D properties (including architectures and civil infrastructures) for both above-ground and underground facilities. A geometrical model of the 3D parcel, therefore, is required for registration of 3D properties. This paper, considering the role of the cadastral system, proposes a framework for a 3D underground cadastral system that can register various types of 3D underground properties using indoor mapping for as-built Building Information Modeling (BIM). The implementation consists of four phases: (1) geometric modeling of a real underground infrastructure using terrestrial laser scanning data; (2) implementation of as-built BIM based on geometric modeling results; (3) accuracy assessment for created as-built BIM using reference points acquired by total station; and (4) creation of three types of 3D underground cadastral map to represent underground properties. The experimental results, based on indoor mapping for as-built BIM, show that the proposed framework for a 3D underground cadastral system is able to register the rights, responsibilities, and restrictions corresponding to the 3D underground properties. In this way, clearly identifying the underground physical situation enables more reliable and effective decision-making in all aspects of the national land administration system. [Termes descripteurs IGN] positionnement en intérieurRésumé : (auteur) This article proposes a comprehensive approach to computing a navigation graph for an indoor space. It focuses on a single floor, but the work is easily extensible to multi-level spaces. The approach proceeds by using a formal model, based on the combinatorial map but enhanced with geometric and semantic information. The process is almost fully automatic, taking as input the building plans providing the geometric structure of the floors and semantics of the building, such as functions of interior spaces, portals, etc. One of the novel aspects in this work was the use of combinatorial maps and their duals to provide a compact formal description of the topology and connectivity of the indoor structure represented by a connected, embedded graph. While making use of existing libraries for the more routine computational geometry involved, the research develops several new algorithms, including one for computing the local kernel of a region. The process is evaluated by means of a case study using part of a university building. [Termes descripteurs IGN] relation topologiqueRésumé : (auteur) Being able to merge high quality and complete building models with parcel data is of a paramount importance for any application dealing with urban planning. However since parcel boundaries often stand for the legal reference frame, the whole correction will be exclusively done on building features. Then a major task is to identify spatial relationships and properties that buildings should keep through the conflation process. The purpose of this paper is to describe a method based on least squares approach to ensure that buildings fit consistently into parcels while abiding by a set of standard constraints that may concern most of urban applications. An important asset of our model is that it can be easily extended to comply with more specific constraints. In addition, results analysis also demonstrates that it provides significantly better output than a basic algorithm relying on an individual correction of features, especially regarding conservation of metrics and topological relationships between buildings. In the future, we would like to include more specific constraints to retrieve the actual positions of buildings relatively to parcel borders and we plan to assess the contribution of our algorithm on the quality of urban application outputs.
