[Termes IGN] simulation numériqueRésumé : (Auteur) Airborne scanning LiDAR systems are used to predict a range of forest attributes. However, the accuracy with which this can be achieved is highly dependent on the sensor configuration and the structural characteristics of the forest examined. As a result, there is a need to understand laser light interactions with forest canopies so that LiDAR sensor configurations can be optimised to assess particular forest types. Such optimisation will not only ensure the targeted forest attributes can be accurately and consistently quantified, but may also minimise the cost of data acquisition and indicate when a survey configuration will not deliver information needs. In this paper, we detail the development and application of a model to simulate laser interactions within forested environments. The developed model, known as the LiDAR Interception and Tree Environment (LITE) model, utilises a range of structural configurations to simulate trees with variable heights, crown dimensions and foliage clumping. We developed and validated the LITE model using field data obtained from three forested sites covering a range of structural classes. Model simulations were then compared to coincident airborne LiDAR data collected over the same sites. Results indicate that the LITE model can be used to produce comparable estimates of maximum height of trees within plots (differences Numéro de notice : A2007-520 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : FORET/IMAGERIE Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.1016/j.rse.2007.04.001 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1016/j.rse.2007.04.001 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=28883

[Termes IGN] requête spatiotemporelleRésumé : (Auteur) The study of convective clouds is an important issue in weather analysis. Previous methods are based on shape matching and level set. In this paper, a method based on snake model is used for cloud tracking. Snakes are known to be more efficient than level set for contour detection however they do not handle topological changes. Therefore, geometrical criteria are introduced to characterize topological transformations. Geometrical techniques are then combined and inserted in the tracking algorithm to perform morphological operations. By applying this method, a history of the positions of the clouds is obtained. In a second stage, a data model is presented for cloud interrogation. Physical information is introduced and data are organized so that spatiotemporal queries can be performed. Results obtained with the tracking method on a real data set are presented and some query examples are given. [Termes IGN] transformation en ondelettesRésumé : (Auteur) This paper reports a new approach for quantifying vegetation pigment concentrations through wavelet decomposition of hyperspectral remotely sensed data. Wavelets are a group of functions that vary in complexity and mathematical properties, that are used to dissect data into different frequency components and then characterize each component with a resolution appropriate to its scale. Wavelet analysis of a reflectance spectrum is performed by scaling and shifting the wavelet function to produce wavelet coefficients that are assigned to different frequency components. By selecting appropriate wavelet coefficients, a spectral model can be established between the coefficients and biochemical concentrations. Hence, wavelet analysis has the potential to capture much more of the information contained within high-resolution spectra than previous approaches and offers the prospect of developing robust, generic methods for pigment determinations. The capabilities of the wavelet-based technique were examined using reflectance spectra and pigment data collected for a range of plant species at leaf and canopy scales. For the combined data set and all of the individual vegetation types, methods based on wavelet decomposition appreciably outperformed narrowband spectral indices and stepwise selection of narrowband reflectance. However, there was variation between vegetation types in the relative performance of the three different feature extraction techniques employed for selecting the wavelet coefficients for use in predictive models. There was also considerable variability in the performance of predictive models according to the wavelet function used for spectral decomposition and the optimum wavelet functions differed between vegetation types and between individual pigments within the same vegetation type. The research indicates that wavelet analysis holds promise for the accurate determination of chlorophyll a and b and the carotenoids, but further work is needed to refine the approach.
