[Termes IGN] système d'information urbainRésumé : (auteur) Spatial cognition is fundamental to the behaviour and activity of humans in urban space. Humans perceive their environments with systematic biases and errors, and act upon these perceptions, which in turn form urban patterns of activity. These perceptions are influenced by a multitude of factors, many of them relating to the static urban form. Yet much of geographic analysis ignores the influence of urban form, instead referring most commonly to the Euclidean arrangement of space. In this paper, we propose a novel spatial modelling framework for estimating cognitive distance in urban space. This framework is constructed from a wealth of research describing the effect of environmental factors on distance estimation, and produces a quantitative estimate of the effect based on standard GIS data. Unlike other cost measures, the cognitive distance estimate integrates systematically observed distortions and biases in spatial cognition. As a proof-of-concept, the framework is implemented for 26 cities worldwide using open data, producing a novel comparative measure of ‘cognitive accessibility’. The paper concludes with a discussion of the potential of this approach in analysing and modelling urban systems, and outlines areas for further research. Such mapping provides information crucial for land management, hazard identification, and the management of the challenges arising from urbanization. The development and use of quantitative and repeatable methods to map anthropogenic and natural processes are required to advance the science of urban geomorphological mapping. This study investigated the application of geospatial modeling, structure-from-motion (SfM) photogrammetric methods and DEM differencing as means of quantifying anthropogenic landform changes from archival aerial imagery. Anthropogenic landforms were incorporated into a detailed geomorphologic map in an urbanizing watershed located in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan suburb of Vienna, Virginia. In order to solve various problems caused by urbanization and optimize the allocation of urban resources, in this paper, the significance of spatial planning in big cities was analyzed from the perspective of land space utilization along with the rail transit. Based on GIS spatial clustering mining technology and combined with the basic characteristics of geographic information system, a GIS spatial mining search model that can solve the spatial land use was proposed. Then, by combining the clustering algorithm of some association rules, the land planning and utilization along the urban rail transit were calculated. The actual case was taken to establish the grid elements along with the rail transit, and the GIS spatial clustering algorithm was used to verify the model. The results show that GIS spatial clustering algorithm can effectively verify and calculate urban rail transit land planning programs. [Termes IGN] segmentation en régionsRésumé : (auteur) Categorical maps of landscape types (LTs) are useful abstractions that simplify spatial and thematic complexity of natural landscapes, thus facilitating land resources management. A local landscape arises from a fusion of patterns of natural themes (such as land cover, landforms, etc.), which makes an unsupervised identification and mapping of LTs difficult. This paper introduces the integrated co-occurrence matrix (INCOMA) – a signature for numerical representation of multi-thematic categorical patterns. INCOMA enables an unsupervised identification and mapping of LTs. The region is tessellated into a large number of local landscapes – patterns of themes over small square-shaped neighborhoods. With local landscapes represented by INCOMA signatures and with dissimilarities between local landscapes calculated using the Jensen-Shannon Divergence (JSD), LTs can be identified and mapped using standard clustering or segmentation techniques. Resultant LTs are typically heterogeneous with respect to categories of contributing themes reflecting the human perception of a landscape. LTs calculated by INCOMA are more faithful abstractions of actual landscapes than LTs obtained by the current method of choice – the map overlay. The concept of INCOMA is described, and its application is demonstrated by an unsupervised mapping of LT zones in Europe based on combined patterns of land cover and landforms. [Termes IGN] SingapourRésumé : (auteur) Natural and human-made features are not exclusive in settlements but interact across time and space, placing the context in constant evolution. The purpose of this paper is to search for the influence of terrain, a natural feature, on the configuration of the street network, a human-made feature, by analysing the results of two transition states of cellular automata used to model street networks. This work uses data from open-source projects and open-source applications. The first transition state models the street network considering the neighbourhood rules and randomness, assuming the natural terrain and street are exclusive. The second transition state models the street network as the product of characteristics of the terrain, neighbourhood rules, and randomness, thus assuming the natural terrain and street network interacting with one another. The model is run thirteen times for four different cities by varying the terrain characteristics and calibrated by comparing the simulated street maps with recent street maps. The results are compared and found that the CA model with the second transition state yields better simulation results than the first transition state. In one of the four cities studied, the first transition state results are similar to a specific state of the second transition state, indicating a weak inter-connectedness between the terrain and the street network in the mega-city. Further research can reveal whether the amount of inter-connectedness is specific to the city’s terrain or size. The recognition of the inter-connectedness of the road to terrain can help plan for resilient human settlements.
