[Termes IGN] seuillageRésumé : (Auteur) In motion imagery-based tracking applications, it is common to extract locations of moving objects without any knowledge about the identity of the objects they correspond to. The identification of individual spatiotemporal trajectories from such data sets is far from trivial when these trajectories intersect in space, time, or attributes. In this paper, we present a novel approach for the reconstruction of entangled spatiotemporal trajectories of moving objects captured in motion imagery data sets. We have developed AGENT (Attribute-aided Classification of Entangled Trajectories), a novel framework that comprises classification, clustering, and neural net processes to progressively reconstruct elongated trajectories using as input spatiotemporal coordinates of image patches and corresponding attribute values. AGENT proceeds by first forming brief fragments and then linking them and adding points to them. An initial classification allows us to form brief segments corresponding to distinct objects. These segments are then linked together through clustering to form longer trajectories. Back-propagation neural network classification and geometric/self-organizing map (SOM) analysis refine these trajectories by removing misclassified and redistributing unassigned points. Thus, AGENT integrates some established classification and clustering tools to devise a novel approach that can address the tracking challenges of busy environments. Furthermore, AGENT allows us use spatiotemporal (ST) thresholds to cluster trajectories according to their spatial and temporal extent. In the paper, we present in detail our framework and experimental results that support the application potential of our approach. [Termes IGN] objet mobileRésumé : (Auteur) For some spatiotemporal applications, it can be assumed that the modeled world is precise and bounded, and that also our record of it is precise. While these simplifying assumptions are sufficient in applications like a land information system, they are unnecessarily crude for many other applications that manage data with spatial and/or temporal extents, such as navigational applications. This work explores fuzziness and uncertainty, subsumed under the term indeterminacy, in the spatiotemporal context. To better illustrate the basic spatiotemporal concepts of change or evolution, it is shown how the fundamental modeling concepts of spatial objects, attributes, and relationships and time points and periods are influenced by indeterminacy and how they can be combined. In particular, the focus is on the change of spatial objects and their geometries across time. Four change scenarios are outlined, which concern discrete versus continuous change and asynchronous versus synchronous measurement, and it is shown how to model indeterminacy for each. A case study illustrates the applicability of the paper's general proposal by describing the uncertainty related to the management of the movements of point objects, such as the management of vehicle positions in a fleet management system. [Termes IGN] propagation d'erreurRésumé : (Auteur) Environmental modelling languages provide the possibility to construct models in two or three spatial dimensions. These models can be static models, without a time component, or dynamic models. Dynamic models are simulations run forward in time, where the state of the model at time t is defined as a function of its state in a period or time step preceding t. Since inputs and parameters of environmental models are associated with errors, environmental modelling languages need to provide techniques to calculate how these errors propagate to the output(s) of the model. Since these techniques are not yet available, the paper describes concepts for extending an environmental-modelling language with functionality for error-propagation modelling. The approach models errors in inputs and parameters as stochastic variables, while the error in the model outputs is approximated with a Monte Carlo simulation. A modelling language is proposed which combines standard functions in a structured script (program) for building environmental models, and calculation of error propagation in these models. A prototype implementation of the language is used in three example models to illustrate the concepts. [Termes IGN] temps instantanéRésumé : (Auteur) This paper is about the information-theoretic foundations upon which useful explanatory and predictive models of dynamic geographic phenomena can be based. It traces the development of these foundations, from sequences of temporal snapshots, through object life histories, to event chronicles. A crucial ontological distinction is drawn between 'things' and 'happenings', that is between continuant and occurrent entities. Up to now, most research has focused on representing the evolution through time of geographic things, whether objects or fields. This paper argues that 'happenings' should be upgraded to an equal status with 'things' in dynamic geographic representations and suggests ways of doing this. The main research focus of the paper is the application of an algebraic approach, previously developed mainly in the context of computational processes, to real-world happenings. It develops a pure event-oriented theory of space and time, and suggests the possibilities that the theory provides by using it to represent the motion of a vehicle through a region. The paper contains a discussion of the scalability and applicability of this model to geographic domains and illustrates some of the ideas by reference to a geo-sensor example. The paper concludes by summarizing its main ideas, relating the research to other germane areas not covered in the developmental survey, and indicating directions for future work.
