[Termes IGN] prédictionRésumé : (auteur) The aim of this study is to test and compare two probabilistic based models (frequency ratio and weightsof- evidence) with regard to regional gold potential mapping at Kelantan, Malaysia. Until now these models have not been used for the purpose of mapping gold potential areas in Malaysia. This study analyzed the spatial relationship between gold deposits and geological factors such as lithology, faults, geochemical and geophysical data in geographical information system (GIS) software. About eight (8) gold deposits and five (5) related factors are identified and quantified for their spatial relationships. Then, all factors were combined to generate a predictive gold potential map. The predictive maps were then validated by comparing them with known gold deposits using receiver operating characteristics (ROC) and “area under the curve” (AUC) graphs. The results of validation showed accuracies of 80% for the frequency ratio and 74% for the weightsof- evidence model, respectively. The results demonstrated the usefulness of frequency ratio and weights-of-evidence modeling techniques in mineral exploration work to discover unknown gold deposits in Kelantan, Malaysia. [Termes IGN] TéhéranRésumé : (Auteur) Many methods for modeling urban expansion are available. Most of these computational models demand a variety of large-scale environmental and socio-economic data to investigate the relationship between urban expansion and its driving forces. These requirements are not always fulfilled, particularly in developing countries due to a lack of data availability. This necessitates methods not suffering from data limitations to ease their application. Consequently, this research presents a morphological approach for predicting urban expansion on the basis of spatiotemporal dynamics of urban margins by investigating the interior metropolitan area of Tehran, Iran as a case study. To assess the model's performance, urban expansion is monitored from 1976 to 2012. The proposed model is evaluated to ensure that the prediction performance for the year 2012 is acceptable. For the year 2024, the model predicts Tehran's urban expansion at an overall R2 of 88%. Accordingly, it is concluded that: (1) although this approach only inputs urban margins, it represents a suitable and easy-to-use urban expansion model; and (2) urban planners are faced with continuing urban expansion. [Termes IGN] troncRésumé : (Auteur) This paper reports on a study of measuring stem curves of standing trees of different species and in different growth stages using terrestrial laser scanning (TLS). Pine and spruce trees are scanned using the multiscan approach in the field, and trees are felled to measure them destructively for the purpose of obtaining reference values. The stem curves are automatically retrieved from laser point clouds, resulting in an accuracy of ~1 cm. The corresponding manual measurements yield similar accuracy but fewer measurements at the upper parts of tree stems, compared with the automated measurements. The stem volumes based on stem curve data and field measurements and the best Finnish national allometric volume equations (using tree species, height, and diameters at heights of 1.3 and 6 m as predictors) result in similar accuracy. The measurement accuracy of the stem curves and stem volumes is similar for both pine and spruce trees. The results of this paper confirm the feasibility of using TLS to produce stem curve data in an automated, accurate and noninvasive way and indicate that the point cloud provides adequate information to accurately derive stem volumes from standing trees. The stem curves and volumes retrieved from point clouds can be employed in various forest management activities, such as the calibration of national or regional allometric curve functions and the prediction of profits in preharvest inventories. [Termes IGN] prédictionRésumé : (Auteur) Models of change processes created with the Markov chain model (MCM) can be used in the interpolation of temporal data and in short-term change projections. However, there are two major issues associated with the use of Markov models for land-cover change projections: the stationarity of change and the impact of neighboring cells on the change areas. This study addressed these two issues using an investigation of five time-series land-cover datasets generated between 1972 and 2009 for the Liverpool region of NSW, Australia. Four short- term transition matrices were computed, and the results were used to predict land-cover distributions for the near future. The issue of neighborhood effects was addressed by incorporating spatial components in a Cellular Automata (CA)-based MCM, and the results were compared with those derived from a normal MCM. Given the marginal improvements in the simulation achieved with CA-MCM rather than MCM, and because of the ability of CA-MCM to incorporate spatial variants, CA-MCM was determined to be the more suitable method for predicting land-cover changes for the year 2019. The land-cover projection indicated that future land-cover changes will likely continue to affect the natural vegetation, which will in turn likely decrease through the continued conversion of natural to agricultural lands over the years.
