[Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) This research presents a processing workflow to automatically find damaged building areas in an urban context. The input data requirements are high-resolution multi-view images, acquired from airborne platform. The elevations are derived from a dense surface model generated with photogrammetric methods. With the principal objective of rapid response in emergency situations, two different processing roadmaps are proposed, semi-supervised and unsupervised. Both of them follow a two-step workflow of building detection and building health estimation. Optionally, cadastral layers may serve as a-priori knowledge on building location. The semi-supervised approach involves a data training step, while the unsupervised approach exploits the similarities and dissimilarities between sets of features calculated over the detected buildings. The change detection task is formulated as a classification task defined over a conditional random field. The algorithms are evaluated using two datasets (Vexcel and Midas cameras) and results are compared with ground truth data and specific metrics. [Vedettes matières IGN] CartologieRésumé : (Auteur) Maps are good at representing geographic space, but texts have a stronger affordance of telling a story than maps. Telling stories is, however, important to make information more personal and to arrest the map user's attention. This paper contrasts the map and the text media in order to understand why texts are good at telling a story but conventional maps are not. We demonstrate that, by a modification of maps, appropriate structural features of the text media can be transferred to maps, which makes them more suitable for telling stories. This new concept for map design can lead to new interaction possibilities and provide insights into how maps can be used more effectively. We argue that the organization of 3D point clouds can be efficiently captured by a structure called superpoint graph (SPG), derived from a partition of the scanned scene into geometrically homogeneous elements. SPGs offer a compact yet rich representation of contextual relationships between object parts, which is then exploited by a graph convolutional network. Our framework sets a new state of the art for segmenting outdoor LiDAR scans (+11.9 and +8.8 mIoU points for both Semantic3D test sets), as well as indoor scans (+12.4 mIoU points for the S3DIS dataset). [Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (Auteur) We propose a new approach for the simultaneous classification of land cover and land use considering spatial as well as semantic context. We apply a Conditional Random Fields (CRF) consisting of a land cover and a land use layer. In the land cover layer of the CRF, the nodes represent superpixels; in the land use layer, the nodes correspond to objects from a geospatial database. Intralayer edges of the CRF model spatial dependencies between neighbouring image sites. All spatially overlapping sites in both layers are connected by interlayer edges, which leads to higher order cliques modelling the semantic relation between all land cover and land use sites in the clique. A generic formulation of the higher order potential is proposed. In order to enable efficient inference in the two-layer higher order CRF, we propose an iterative inference procedure in which the two classification tasks mutually influence each other. We integrate contextual relations between land cover and land use in the classification process by using contextual features describing the complex dependencies of all nodes in a higher order clique. These features are incorporated in a discriminative classifier, which approximates the higher order potentials during the inference procedure. The approach is designed for input data based on aerial images. Experiments are carried out on two test sites to evaluate the performance of the proposed method. The experiments show that the classification results are improved compared to the results of a non-contextual classifier. For land cover classification, the result is much more homogeneous and the delineation of land cover segments is improved. For the land use classification, an improvement is mainly achieved for land use objects showing non-typical characteristics or similarities to other land use classes. Furthermore, we have shown that the size of the superpixels has an influence on the level of detail of the classification result, but also on the degree of smoothing induced by the segmentation method, which is especially beneficial for land cover classes covering large, homogeneous areas.
