[Termes IGN] prise en compte du contexteRésumé : (Auteur) A new algorithm based on the fusion of edge and multispectral information is proposed for the pixel-wise classification of very high-resolution (VHR) remotely sensed imagery. It integrates the multispectral, spatial and structural information existing in the image. The edge feature is first extracted using an improved multispectral edge detection method, which takes into account the original multispectral bands, the linear NDVI, and the independent spectral components extracted by independent component analysis (ICA). Direction-lines are then defined using the edge and multispectral information. Two effective spatial measures are calculated based on the direction-lines in order to describe the contextual information and strengthen the multispectral feature space. Then, the support vector machine (SVM) is employed to classify the hybrid structural-multispectral feature set. In experiments, the proposed spatial measures were compared with the pixel shape index (PSI) and the gray level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM). The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm performs well in terms of classification accuracies and visual interpretation. [Termes IGN] trafic routierRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents a generic scheme to extract traffic information from both optical satellite imagery and optical airborne image sequences. The extraction is based on an explicit semantic model of traffic, from which, depending on the characteristics of the input data, different strategies for vehicle detection, vehicle queue extraction and motion estimation are derived. The model comprises different scales to exploit the scale-dependent properties of traffic imaged by optical sensors. It is furthermore extended by context information to include knowledge about background objects as well as metadata from a road database in a consistent way. Various tests with different input data have been carried out and compared with manually acquired ground truth data of vehicles and vehicle tracks. The results show clearly the high potential of airborne and spaceborne traffic monitoring, but also indicate room for methodological improvements and exhibit some inherent sensor-related drawbacks. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) A structure recognition technique is presented that can be employed for contextual building and built-up area generalisation in medium-scale topographic maps. Owing to various spatial configurations, a contextual mechanism is necessary to achieve acceptable results in cartographic generalisation. Spatial structures are usually implicit in data, and advanced analysis and processing methods are required to detect them. This technique is based on auxiliary geometric data structures and spatial analysis methods. A case study is performed with a topographic data set, using an interface developed in an object-oriented geographic information system (O-O GIS). The proposed approach was found to assist and improve automation. [Termes IGN] requête spatialeRésumé : (Auteur) We address the problem of optimizing the maintenance of continuous queries in Moving Objects Databases, when a set of pending continuous queries need to be reevaluated as a result of bulk updates to the trajectories of moving objects. Such bulk updates may happen when traffic abnormalities, e.g., accidents or road works, affect a subset of trajectories in the corresponding regions, throughout the duration of these abnormalities. The updates to the trajectories may in turn affect the correctness of the answer sets for the pending continuous queries in much larger geographic areas. We present a comprehensive set of techniques, both static and dynamic, for improving the performance of reevaluating the continuous queries in response to the bulk updates. The static techniques correspond to specifying the values for the various semantic dimensions of trigger execution. The dynamic techniques include an in-memory shared reevaluation algorithm, extending query indexing to queries described by trajectories and query reevaluation ordering based on space-filling curves. We have completely implemented our system prototype on top of an existing Object-Relational Database Management System, Oracle 9i, and conducted extensive experimental evaluations using realistic data sets to demonstrate the validity of our approach.
