[Termes IGN] rapport signal sur bruitRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, we address the problem of order selection in noisy hyperspectral applications. In conventional unmixing methods, this problem has been divided into two separate processes of order selection and unmixing. Order selection methods generally use a denoising approach at the beginning stage. The data in this case pass through three stages: denoising, order selection, and unmixing. Each of these steps mainly aims to optimize a different criterion independently. In addition, any error created in the denoising process will be propagated not only to the order selection stage but also consequently to the unmixing results. Commonly used denoising methods such as eigenvalue-decomposition-based methods, e.g., singular-value-decomposition-based methods, provide a threshold value to separate the noise from the signal. These approaches are heavily sensitive to the threshold value and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Moreover, these methods tend to lose their efficiency rapidly for lower SNRs. Note that both the denoising step and the dimension estimation step aim to provide the optimum estimate of the same noiseless data. Consequently, adopting a simultaneous denoising and dimension estimation method with a goal to provide the optimum estimate of the desired noiseless data is rational. This process not only avoids possible error propagations from the denoising stage to the dimension estimation stage but also unifies the optimization criteria that were used in each of these steps. In this paper, a simultaneous denoising and dimension estimation method is introduced. The approach is based on minimizing the estimated mean square error. Minimization is done by comparing the estimated data in a range of subspaces dictated by a simultaneous process. Minimizing the error at once, the proposed method denoises the data and provides the optimum dimension simultaneously. Owing to the parallel processing of denoising and dimension estimation, the simulation results show the advantages of the proposed method over some of the state-of-the-art approaches and illustrate a substantial performance, particularly for cases with a lower SNR. [Termes IGN] station GPSRésumé : (Auteur) We examined the sensitivity of estimates of global sea-level rise obtained from GPS-corrected long term tide gauge records to uncertainties in the International Terrestrial Reference Frame (ITRF) realization. A useful transfer function was established, linking potential errors in the reference frame datum (origin and scale) to resulting errors in the estimate of global sea level rise. Contrary to scale errors that are propagated by a factor of 100%, the impact of errors in the origin depends on the network geometry. The geometry of the network analyzed here resulted in an error propagation factor of 50% for the Z component of the origin, mainly due to the asymmetry in the distribution of the stations between hemispheres. This factor decreased from 50% to less than 10% as the geometry of the network improved using realistic potential stations that did not yet meet the selection criteria (e.g., record length, data availability). Conversely, we explored new constraints on the reference frame by considering forward calculations involving tide gauge records. A reference frame could be found in which the scatter of the regional sea-level rates was limited. The resulting reference frame drifted by 1.36 + 0.22 mm/year from the ITRF2000 origin in the Z component and by -0.44 + 0.22 mm/year from the ITRF2005 origin. A bound on the rate of global sea level rise of 1.2 to 1.6 mm/year was derived for the past century, depending on the origin of the adopted reference frame. The upper bound is slightly lower than previous estimates of 1.8 mm/year discussed in the IPCC fourth report. [Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (Auteur) We examined the impact of temporal dependence between patterns of error in classified time-series imagery through a simulation modeling approach. This research extended the land-cover-change simulation model we previously developed to investigate: (1) the assumption of temporal independence between patterns of error in classified time-series imagery; and (2) the interaction of patterns of change and patterns of error in a post-classification change analysis. In this research, the thematic complexity of the classified land-cover maps was increased by increasing the number of simulated land-cover classes. Simulating maps with increased categorical resolution permitted the incorporation of: (1) higher-order, more complex spatial and temporal interactions between land-cover classes; and (2) patterns of error that better reproduce the complex error interactions that often occur in time-series classified imagery. The overall modeling framework was divided into two primary components: (1) generation of a map representing true change; and (2) generation of a suite of change maps that had been perturbed by specific patterns of error. All component maps in the model were produced using simulated annealing, which enabled us to create a series of map realizations with user-defined spatial and temporal patterns. Comparing the true map of change to the error-perturbed maps of change using accuracy assessment statistics showed that increasing the temporal dependence between classification errors did not improve the accuracy of resulting maps of change when the categorical scale of the land-cover classified maps was increased. The increased structural complexity within the time series of maps effectively inhibited the impact of temporal dependence. However, results demonstrated that there are interactions between patterns of error and patterns of change in a post-classification change analysis. These interactions played a major role in determining the accuracy associated with the maps of change.
