[Termes IGN] toitRésumé : (Auteur) Three-dimensional (3D) building models are essential for 3D Geographic Information Systems and play an important role in various urban management applications. Although several light detection and ranging (LiDAR) data-based reconstruction approaches have made significant advances toward the fully automatic generation of 3D building models, the process is still tedious and time-consuming, especially for massive point clouds. This paper introduces a new framework that utilizes a spatial database to achieve high performance via parallel computation for fully automatic 3D building roof reconstruction from airborne LiDAR data. The framework integrates data-driven and model-driven methods to produce building roof models of the primary structure with detailed features. The framework is composed of five major components: (1) a density-based clustering algorithm to segment individual buildings, (2) an improved boundary-tracing algorithm, (3) a hybrid method for segmenting planar patches that selects seed points in parameter space and grows the regions in spatial space, (4) a boundary regularization approach that considers outliers and (5) a method for reconstructing the topological and geometrical information of building roofs using the intersections of planar patches. The entire process is based on a spatial database, which has the following advantages: (a) managing and querying data efficiently, especially for millions of LiDAR points, (b) utilizing the spatial analysis functions provided by the system, reducing tedious and time-consuming computation, and (c) using parallel computing while reconstructing 3D building roof models, improving performance. [Termes IGN] série temporelleRésumé : (Auteur) We propose a superresolution (SR) algorithm based on adaptive sparse representation via multiple dictionaries for images taken by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The SR attainable through the proposed algorithm can increase the precision of 3-D reconstruction from UAV images, enabling the production of high-resolution images for constructing high-frequency time series and for high-precision digital mapping in agriculture. The basic idea of the proposed method is to use a field server or ground-based camera to take training images and then construct multiple pairs of dictionaries based on selective sparse representations to reduce instability during the sparse coding process. The dictionaries are classified on the basis of the edge orientation into five clusters: 0, 45, 90, 135, and nondirection. The proposed method is expected to reduce blurring, blocking, and ringing artifacts especially in edge areas. We evaluated the proposed and previous methods using peak signal-to-noise ratio, structural similarity, feature similarity, and computation time. Our experimental results indicate that the proposed method clearly outperforms other state-of-the-art algorithms based on qualitative and quantitative analysis. In the end, we demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method to increase the precision of 3-D reconstruction from UAV images. [Termes IGN] tomographie par GPSRésumé : (Auteur) Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) tomography provides 3-D reconstructions of atmosphere wet refractivity, related to water vapor. A simulated analysis of the integration of Global Positioning System and future Galileo data is presented. Atmospheric refractivity is derived from radiosonde data acquired over the Lisbon area. The impact of Galileo data on the tomographic reconstruction is assessed. Furthermore, horizontal anomalies are added to a reference vertical profile of atmospheric refractivity to reproduce low-level dry or wet air intrusions, a phenomenon commonly observed in meteorological data acquired by both radiosonde and satellites. The dependence of tomographic solution on the GNSS network density is also analyzed. Better reconstruction capabilities in the lower layers are observed when increasing the network density. [Vedettes matières IGN] Inventaire forestierRésumé : (auteur) Advances in computer vision and the parallel development of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) allow for the extensive use of UAV in forest inventory and in indirect measurements of tree features. We used UAV-sensed high-resolution imagery through photogrammetry and Structure from Motion (SfM) to estimate tree heights and crown diameters. We reconstructed 3D structures from 2D image sequences for two study areas (25 × 25 m). Species composition for Plot 1 included Norway spruce (Picea abies L.) together with European larch (Larix decidua Mill.) and Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.), whereas Plot 2 was mainly Norway spruce and Scots pine together with scattered individuals of European larch and Silver birch (Betula pendula Roth.). The involved workflow used canopy height models (CHMs) for the extraction of height, the smoothing of raster images for the determination of the local maxima, and Inverse Watershed Segmentation (IWS) for the estimation of the crown diameters with the help of a geographical information system (GIS). Finally, we validated the accuracies of the two methods by comparing the UAV results with ground measurements. The results showed higher agreement between field and remote-sensed data for heights than for crown diameters based on RMSE%, which were in the range 11.42–12.62 for height and 14.29–18.56 for crown diameter. Overall, the accuracy of the results was acceptable and showed that the methods were feasible for detecting tree heights and crown diameter.
