[Termes IGN] triangulation (topologie)Résumé : (Auteur) This paper presents a general strategy for 3D reconstruction of complex architectural scenes. This approach makes use of both laser data (range and retro-diffusion) and image data, and of their great complementarity. The proposed approach starts with pose estimation between the two data sets. This part is largely automated by means of correlation of fine feature points and linear primitives. The second part deals with segmentation of the scene. Here, each element of the scene must be detected. This can be fulfilled in two ways. The first one is semi-automatic extraction of the objects where user interaction is used to initialize the object localisation, the second one is fully automatic segmentation, driven by image and 3D data. Then, each object needs to be reconstructed. We consider a large range of objects since we can describe planar surfaces, general geometric primitives and generalised cylinders. When these models do not fit with the surface, that is to say on complex parts, triangulation is performed. This leads to two potential reconstruction tools: one similar to laser data editing software, with more efficient object selection and object boundary estimation, the other would perform automatic reconstruction, which would be followed by a verification procedure. The advantage of this approach, compared to existing techniques, is to reduce dramatically reconstruction time, without having any hard limitation on the set of shapes that can be obtained. [Termes IGN] reconstruction d'objetRésumé : (auteur) 3D Geographic Information and especially Digital Surface or Terrain Models are becoming essential data for many applications, from risk mapping (avalanches, volcanoes, floods, ..) to town and infrastructure planning with virtual and augmented reality. Automatic surface reconstruction from images with shape from stereo techniques has been a subject of constant attention within remote sensing, photogrammetric, image processing and computer vision communities since the 70's. These techniques had reached a limit when addressing scenes with poor textures, discontinuities and occlusions as encountered in urban areas with HR geospatial imagery. These limitations have faded lately with the rise of new technologies (e.g. high quality aerial digital cameras) and techniques (e.g multi-view processing) and consequently expectations of full (or nearly) automation at short term have become a trend again. Meanwhile, LASER scanning technologies, which provide a reliable description of the imaged scenes in the form of 3D cloud points, have achieved a certain degree of maturity. [Termes IGN] superposition d'imagesRésumé : (auteur) In recent years, image mosaicking has been a focus of attention of many researchers and practitioners. Existing mosaicking methods are effective only in limited cases where the camera motion is almost a pure rotation or the viewed scene is planar or very far away. In this paper, we introduce a new methodology of image mosaicking for generic 3D scenes under general camera motions. What puts the mosaicking problem to a class different from those in existing work is the parallax in the images. In this paper, we develop two heuristics for performing the geometrical image transfer. The first one uses a planar motion plus parallax together with a projective reconstruction. The second one uses projective planar patches. We provide a solution for the occlusion problem introduced by the parallax field. Examples of constructing successful mosaics from real images are shown. These experiments demonstrate the feasibility of the developed methods for registering images with parallax.
