[Termes IGN] surveillance géologiqueRésumé : (Auteur) An artificial rainfall event was applied to a forested slope in Ruedlingen, northern Switzerland. The experiment triggered a landslide which resulted in mobilising about 130 m3 of debris. The event was monitored by a photogrammetric network of four cameras, operating at 5 to 8 frames per second, in order to quantify spatial and temporal changes by tracking tennis balls pegged into the ground. Image measurements were performed using automated image matching methods, implemented through a software package developed in-house. Three-dimensional coordinates of the target points were estimated by running a customised type of bundle adjustment, achieving a positioning precision of + 1·8 cm. [Termes IGN] test de performanceRésumé : (Auteur) Automatic shadow detection is a very important pre-processing step for many remote sensing applications, particularly for images acquired with high spatial resolution. In complex urban environments, shadows may occupy a significant portion of the image. Ignoring these regions would lead to errors in various applications, such as atmospheric correction and classification. To better understand the radiative impact of shadows, a physical study was conducted through the simulation of a synthetic urban canyon scene. Its results helped to explain the most common assumptions made on shadows from a physical point of view in the literature. With this understanding, state-of-the-art methods on shadow detection were surveyed and categorized into six classes: histogram thresholding, invariant color models, object segmentation, geometrical methods, physics-based methods, unsupervised and supervised machine learning methods. Among them, some methods were selected and tested on a large dataset of multispectral and hyperspectral airborne images with high spatial resolution. The dataset chosen contains a large variety of typical occidental urban scenes. The results were compared based on accurate reference shadow masks. In these experiments, histogram thresholding on RGB and NIR channels performed the best with an average accuracy of 92.5%, followed by physics-based methods, such as Richter’s method with 90.0%. Finally, this paper analyzes and discusses the limits of these algorithms, concluding with some recommendations for shadow detection. [Termes IGN] surface du solRésumé : (Auteur) One of the most critical problems that affect the analysis of orbiting radar sounder data is the presence of spurious surface clutter returns. These are due to off-nadir echoes related to surface topography which may be detected as (or mask) actual subsurface targets. The detection of such returns is usually carried out manually through a visual comparison between actual radargrams and surface clutter simulations obtained using available digital elevation models (DEMs). This is an inherently subjective and time-consuming task, which may reduce the scientific return of the data. In this paper, we address this problem by proposing a novel technique for the automatic detection of surface clutter returns in radar sounder data. The proposed method is made up of three steps: 1) the simulation of surface clutter returns using available DEMs; 2) the automatic coregistration between radargrams and simulations; and 3) the extraction of surface clutter returns from the coregistered radargrams. The coregistration step is performed in two phases: 1) a coarse registration based on the detection of the first return line on both input radargrams and 2) a fine registration based on B-spline deformation. The proposed technique is robust to radargram geometric deformations (e.g., due to ionospheric effects) and allows the generation of different types of outputs (e.g., coregistered simulations, binary clutter maps, and false-color compositions) that can both greatly support the scientific community in the manual analyses of radar sounder data and drive the development of reliable automatic methods for high level processing. The effectiveness of the proposed method is proven on two data sets acquired on different areas of Mars by the Shallow Radar instrument. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Geographic applications are often over-constrained because of the stakeholders’ multiple requirements and the various spatial, alphanumeric and temporal constraints to be satisfied. In most cases, solving over-constrained problems is based on the relaxation of some constraints according to values of preferences. This article proposes the modelling and the management of constraints in order to provide a framework to integrate stakeholders in the expression and the relaxation of their constraints. Three families of constraints are defined: static vs. dynamic, intra-entity vs. inter-entities and intra-instance vs. inter-instances. Constraints are modelled from two points of view: system with the complexity in time of the different involved operators and user with stakeholders’ preferences. The methodology of constraints relaxation is based on primitive, complex and derived operations. These operations allow a modification of the constraints in order to provide a relevant solution to a simulation. The developed system was applied to reduce the streaming/floods risks in the territory of Pays de Caux (Seine Maritime, France).
