To precisely analyze co-location relationships in a micro-scale space, this study develops a new statistical method by addressing the limitations of the ordinary cross K function method. The objectives of this paper are, first, to formulate an exact statistical method for analyzing co-location along streets in a central district constrained by a street network; second, to implement this statistical method in computational procedures. Third, this method is extended to the analysis of repulsive-location, i.e. phenomena of stores locating repulsively among different types of stores. Fourth, the paper shows a graph-theoretic diagram illustrating the spatial structure of stores in a central district consisting of bilateral, unilateral co-location and repulsive-location. Last, the proposed method is applied to eight different types of stores in a trendy district in Tokyo. The results show that the method is useful for revealing the spatial structure consisting of co-location and repulsive-location in the central district. [Vedettes matières IGN] Inventaire forestierRésumé : (auteur) In Europe, some non-native tree species (NNT) are classified as invasive because they have spread into semi-natural habitats. Yet, available risk assessment protocols are often based on a few limited case studies with unknown representativeness and uncertain data quality. This is particularly problematic when negative impacts of NNT are confined to particular ecosystems or processes, whilst providing valuable ecosystem services elsewhere. Here, we filled this knowledge gap and assessed invasion risks of two controversially discussed NNT in Germany (Quercus rubra L., Pseudotsuga menziesii (Mirb.) Franco) for broad forest types using large scale inventory data. For this purpose, establishment success of natural regeneration was quantified in terms of cover and height classes. The current extent of spread into protected forest habitats was investigated in south-west Germany using regional data. Establishment was most successful at sites where the NNT are abundant in the canopy and where sufficient light is available in the understory. Natural regeneration of both NNT was observed in 0.3% of the total area of protected habitats. In forest habitats with sufficient light in the understory and competitively inferior tree species, there is a risk that Douglas fir and red oak cause changes in species composition in the absence of management interventions. The installation of buffer zones and regular removal of unwanted regeneration could minimize such risks for protected areas. Our study showed that forest inventories can provide valuable data for comparing the establishment risk of NNT amongst ecosystem types, regions or jurisdictions. This information can be improved by recording the abundance and developmental stage of widespread NNT, particularly in semi-natural ecosystems. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (auteur) Merging is an important operation in the map generalization of land-cover and other coverages. We define structured geographic objects as collections of adjacent areas with homogeneous semantics that are regularly arranged as spatial structures. Existing studies have concentrated on unstructured objects, which will lead to the structured ones losing part or even most of the typical characteristics during merging. Therefore, as a supplement to the existing mature merging method, a targeted method was proposed in this paper to address the merging problem of structured geographic objects. First, structured geographic objects were classified into four typical patterns, and they were identified automatically according to seven spatial structure parameters. Second, a Miter-type buffer transformation was introduced to extract the overall boundary of structured geographic objects, and areas inside the overall boundary were processed with the most appropriate merging operations for their pattern. Finally, the corresponding merged results of structured geographic objects were inserted back into the merged result of the original land-cover data by using the NOT operation, and the spatial conflicts near the boundary were adjusted. We test our method for a dataset of geographical census data for a city in China. The experimental results revealed that compared with state-of-the-art method, the proposed method produces more reasonable generalization result by effectively identifying and maintaining the typical spatial structures; moreover, the proposed method also preserves the planar tessellation characteristic of land-cover data and the balance of area variation in each land-cover class. [Termes IGN] zone tamponRésumé : (auteur) Legacy ecoregion maps contain knowledge on relationships between eco-region units and their environmental factors. This study proposes a method to extract knowledge from legacy area-class maps to formulate a set of fuzzy membership functions useful for regionalization. We develop a buffer zone approach to reduce the uncertainty of boundaries between eco-region units on area-class maps. We generate buffer zones with a Euclidean distance perpendicular to the boundaries, then the original eco-region units without buffer zones serve as the basic units to generate the probability density functions (PDF) of environmental variables. Then, we transform the PDFs to fuzzy membership functions for class-zones on the map. We demonstrate the proposed method with a climatic zone map of China. The results showed that the buffer zone approach effectively reduced the uncertainties of boundaries. A buffer distance of 10–15 km was recommended in this study. The climatic zone map generated based on the extracted fuzzy membership functions showed a higher spatial stratification heterogeneity (compared to the original map). Based on the fuzzy membership functions with climate data of 1961–2015, we also prepared an updated climatic zone map. This study demonstrates the prospects of using fuzzy membership functions to delineate area classes for regionalization purpose. [Termes IGN] zone tamponRésumé : (auteur) This paper—which is contextualized in the discussion on the methodological pluralism and the main topics of medical geography, the complexity theory in geographies of health, the remaking of medical geography and ad hoc systems of data elaboration—focuses on radio base stations (RBSs) as sources of electromagnetic fields, to provide GIS applications and simplifying-prudential models that are able to identify areas that could potentially be exposed to hazard. After highlighting some specific aspects regarding RBSs and their characteristics and summarizing the results of a number of studies concerning the possible effects of electromagnetic fields on health, we have taken an area of north-east Rome with a high population and building density as a case study, and we have provided some methodological and applicative exemplifications for different situations and types of antennas. Through specific functionalities and criteria, drawing inspiration from a precautionary principle, these exemplifications show some particular cases in order to support: possible risk factor identification, surveillance and spatial analysis; correlation analysis between potential risk factors and outbreak of diseases and symptoms; measurement campaigns in heavily exposed areas and buildings; education policies and prevention actions. From an operative viewpoint, we have: conducted some field surveys and recorded data and images with specific geotechnological and geomatics instruments; retraced the routes by geobrowsers and basemaps and harmonized and joined up the materials in a GIS environment; used different functions to define, on aero-satellite images, concentric circular buffer zones starting from each RBS, and geographically and geometrically delimited the connected areas subject to high and different exposure levels; produced digital applications and tested prime three-dimensional models, in addition to a video from a bird’s eye view perspective, able to show the buildings in the different buffer zones and which are subject to a hazard hierarchy due to exposure to an RBS. A similar GIS-based model—reproposable with methodological adjustments to other polluting sources—can make it possible to conceive a dynamic and multiscale digital system functional in terms of strategic planning, decision-making and public health promotion in a performant digital health information system.
