[Termes IGN] zone tamponRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents methods to evaluate the geometric quality of spatial data. Firstly, a point-based method is presented, adapting conventional assessment methods whereby common points between datasets are compared. In our approach, initial matches are established automatically and refined further through interactive editing. Second, a line-based method which uses correspondences between line segments is proposed. Here, the geometry of line segments in vector is transformed into a set of rasterized values so that their combination at each pixel can restore their original vector geometry. Matching is performed on rasterized line segments and their matching lengths and displacements are measured. Experimental results show that the line-based approach proposed is efficient to evaluate the geometric quality of spatial data without requirements of topological relationships among line features. [Termes IGN] zone tamponRésumé : (Auteur) Years of environmental neglect and deforestation on CFB Gagetown have unfortunately caused sedimentation in the more than 2,400km of streams on the base. In an effort to control this and maintain environmental sustainability, vegetation reforestation is needed to create ‘riparian buffers’. These are vegetated areas, usually forested, near a stream, which help shade and protect it from the impact of adjacent land use. The size of the area makes it important to optimise the reforestation process by identifying those areas requiring most attention. This project was initiated to find a way of identifying these critical riparian buffers using aerial imagery and off-the-shelf software. [Termes IGN] zone tamponRésumé : (Auteur) Creating buffers is an important function used in geographic information systems (GIS) to perform spatial analysis. However, delineating buffers for setbacks in conservation and planning applications is problematical in mountainous areas. A typical vector buffer function in GIS calculates two-dimensional (2D) Euclidean distance (i.e., planimetric distance) instead of surface (or slope) distance and results in an inaccurate representation of buffers when they are verified in the field. A method of delineating buffers on surfaces in the raster data model is presented in this paper. Ali efficient implementation of the method is achieved through the use of a min-heap and a hash-table based location index. The method is tested and analysed on both hypothetical and real surface datasets. [Termes IGN] zone tamponRésumé : (Auteur) This work describes a stereo algorithm that takes advantage of image segmentation, assuming that disparity varies smoothly inside a segment of homogeneous colour and depth discontinuities coincide with segment borders. Image segmentation allows our method to generate correct disparity estimates in large untextured regions and precisely localize depth boundaries. The disparity inside a segment is represented by a planar equation. To derive the plane model, an initial disparity map is generated. We use a window-based approach that exploits the results of segmentation. The size of the match window is chosen adaptively. A segment's planar model is then derived by robust least squared error fitting using the initial disparity map. In a layer extraction step, disparity segments that are found to be similar according to a plane dissimilarity measurement are combined to form a single robust layer. We apply a modified mean-shift algorithm to extract clusters of similar disparity segments. Segments of the same cluster build a layer, the plane parameters of which are computed from its spatial extent using the initial disparity map. We then optimize the assignment of segments to layers using a global cost function. The quality of the disparity map is measured by warping the reference image to the second view and comparing it with the real image. Z-buffering enforces visibility and allows the explicit detection of occlusions. The cost function measures the colour dissimilarity between the warped and real views, and penalizes occlusions and neighbouring segments that are assigned to different layers. Since the problem of finding the assignment of segments to layers that minimizes this cost function is NP-complete, an efficient greedy algorithm is applied to find a local minimum. Layer extraction and assignment are alternately applied. Qualitative and quantitative results obtained for benchmark image pairs show that the proposed algorithm outperforms most state-of-the-art matching algorithms currently listed on the Middlebury stereo evaluation website. The technique achieves particularly good results in areas with depth discontinuities and related occlusions, where missing stereo information is substituted from surrounding regions. Furthermore, we apply the algorithm to a self-recorded image set and show 3D visualizations of the derived results. [Termes IGN] zone tamponRésumé : (Auteur) Error propagation of buffer analysis in a vectorbased geographical information system (GIS) is studied with the use of statistics and numerical analyses. In this paper, such factors as the error of commission, the error of omission, the discrepant area and the normalized discrepant area are proposed as the error indicators of buffer analysis. Analytical expressions for the error indicators are developed as multiple integrals. A numerical integration method is recommended to find an approximation to the analytical expression.
