[Termes IGN] rétrodiffusionRésumé : (Auteur) We present a new approach for radiometric calibration of light detection and ranging (LIDAR) intensity data and demonstrate an application of this method to natural targets. The method is based on 1) using commercially available sand and gravel as reference targets and 2) the calibration of these reference targets in the laboratory conditions to know their backscatter properties. We have investigated the target properties crucial for accurate and consistent reflectance calibration and present a set of ideal targets easily available for calibration purposes. The first results from LIDAR-based brightness measurement of grass and sand show that the gravel-based calibration approach works in practice, is cost effective, and produces statistically meaningful results: Comparison of results from two separate airborne laser scanning campaigns shows that the relative calibration produces repeatable reflectance values. [Termes IGN] visualisation de donnéesRésumé : (Auteur) Early warning and monitoring activities in the field of natural hazard management are crucial in order to limit damage to life and property from extreme natural events. Decision makers in these fields, such as operational hydrologists, must be enabled to quickly and comprehensively assess an on-going situation, examine its details, and then take further actions based on the most current information available. The cartographic challenge is to deliver automated, real-time visualizations from distributed raw measurement data while applying sound cartographic rules and standards. In this research, a web-based, cartographic, real-time information system is presented. True real-time data of Swiss hydro-meteorological measuring networks were used, and a prototype application was tested that integrates the acquisition, processing, and visualizations in different ways, depending on the chosen timeframe and level of detail. Besides monitoring visualizations, data are retraceable using visualizations that clearly stress the course of a hydrological event and the data's spatio-temporal character. Further visualizations and functionalities are provided that allow for relating real-time data to a broader historical context, facilitating learning from former experiences. Data for past events are immediately retrievable from a data archive, then classified and visualized for comparisons. [Termes IGN] reconstruction d'itinéraire ou de trajectoireRésumé : (Auteur) Widespread availability of location aware devices (such as GPS receivers) promotes capture of detailed movement trajectories of people, animals, vehicles and other moving objects, opening new options for a better understanding of the processes involved. In this paper we investigate spatio-temporal movement patterns in large tracking data sets. We present a natural definition of the pattern ‘one object is leading others’, which is based on behavioural patterns discussed in the behavioural ecology literature. Such leadership patterns can be characterised by a minimum time length for which they have to exist and by a minimum number of entities involved in the pattern. Furthermore, we distinguish two models (discrete and continuous) of the time axis for which patterns can start and end. For all variants of these leadership patterns, we describe algorithms for their detection, given the trajectories of a group of moving entities. A theoretical analysis as well as experiments show that these algorithms efficiently report leadership patterns. [Termes IGN] traitement de données localiséesRésumé : (Auteur) Spatial ETL (Extracting, Transforming, and Loading) tools have been around for over a decade. Yet only in the few years has their true strategic value emerged in geospatial initiatives around the globe. Now more than ever, it's the data that's pushing the capabilities of Spatial ETL tools into a new dimension. This article describes how the future of these critical data moving tools is being shaped by emerging data model, source, and format requirements alongside the trends in web and aditional IT technologies.
