[Termes IGN] variation saisonnièreRésumé : (Auteur)Synchronizing hyperspectral data acquisition with phonological changes in a tropical forest can generate comprehensive information for their effective management. The present study was performed to identify a suitable dimensionality reduction method for better classification and to evaluate the impact of seasonally on classification accuracy of tropical forest cover. EO-1 Hyperion images were acquired for three different seasons (summer (April), monsoon (October), and winter (January)). Spectral signatures of pure patches of Teak, Bamboo, and mixed species covers are significantly different across the three seasons indicating distinctive phenology of each cover. Kernel Principal Component Analysis (k-PCA) is more suitable for dimensionality reduction for these covers. The three vegetation covers classified using images of three seasons achieved the best classification accuracies using k-PCA with maximum likeli-hood classifier for the monsoon season with overall accuracies of 83 to 100 percent for single species, 74 to 81 percent for two species, and 72 percent for three species respectively. [Termes IGN] variation saisonnièreRésumé : (auteur) Recent studies show that terrestrial and space-based observations of gravity agree over Europe. In this paper, we compare time-series of terrestrial gravity (including the contribution due to surface displacement) as measured by superconducting gravimeters (SGs), space-based observations from Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) and predicted changes in gravity derived from two global hydrological models at 10 SG stations in central Europe. Despite the fact that all observations and models observe a maximum in the same season due to water storage changes, there is little agreement between the SG time-series even when they are separated by distances smaller than the spatial resolution of GRACE. We also demonstrate that GRACE and the SG observations and the water storage models do not display significant correlation at seasonal periods nor at interannual periods. These findings are consistent with the fact that the SGs are sensitive primarily to mass changes in the few hundred metres surrounding the station. [Termes IGN] variation temporelleRésumé : (Auteur) High-frequency variability of the ionosphere, or irregularities, constitutes the main threat for real-time precise positioning techniques based on Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) measurements. Indeed, during periods of enhanced ionospheric variability, GNSS users in the field—who cannot verify the integrity of their measurements—will experience positioning errors that can reach several decimeters, while the nominal accuracy of the technique is cm-level. In the frame of this paper, a climatological analysis of irregularities over the European mid-latitude region is presented. Based on a 10 years GPS dataset over Belgium, the work analyzes the occurrence rate (as a function of the solar cycle, season and local time) as well as the amplitude of ionospheric irregularities observed at a single GPS station. The study covers irregularities either due to space weather events (solar origin) or of terrestrial origin. If space weather irregularities are responsible for the largest effects in terms of ionospheric error, their occurrence rate highly depends on solar activity. Indeed, the occurrence rate of ionospheric irregularities is about 9 % during solar maximum, whereas it drops to about 0 % during medium or low solar activity periods. Medium-scale ionospheric disturbances (MSTIDs) occurring during daytime in autumn/winter are the most recurrent pattern of the time series, with yearly proportions slightly varying with the solar cycle and an amplitude of about 10 % of the TEC background. Another recurrent irregularity type, though less frequent than MSTIDs, is the noise-like variability in TEC observed during summer nighttime, under quiet geomagnetic conditions. These summer nighttime irregularities exhibit amplitudes ranging between 8 and 15 % of the TEC background. [Termes IGN] variation temporelleRésumé : (auteur) Variations in the temporal length-of-day (LOD) contain information on phenomena related to the continuous evolution of Earth processes: tidal energy dissipation and core-mantle coupling (decadal, secular), meteorological and solar-lunar tide effects (annual, semi-annual). In this work, we studied an LOD time series obtained from VLBI measurements and extracted its principal components using the Singular Spectrum Analysis (SSA). After removing the long-term trend which explains 73. 8% of the signal, three remaining components explain a further 22. 0% of the signal: an annual and a semi-annual signals as well as a second trend. We compared the Multivariate ENSO index (MEI) with the variations in the amplitudes of the annual and semi-annual components and with the second trend. The correlations are significant: 0. 58 for the annual component, − 0. 48 for the semi-annual component and 0. 46 for the second trend.
