As a result, multiple trajectory similarity measures have been developed and are used in a wide set of applications which aim to extract meaningful information from large collections. In this paper, we focus on some of the most popular measures and study how they all can be adapted to use contextual information. We experiment using the buildings in an urban setting as the context and demonstrate how it impacts the similarity values. Experiments show that routes rank differently in terms of similarity in the presence of context which can have serious implications in applications such as trajectory search and clustering similar trajectories. [Termes IGN] TwitterRésumé : (auteur) The research focuses on detecting tourist flows in the Province of Styria in Austria based on crowdsourced data. Twitter data were collected in the time range from 2008 until August 2018. Extracted tweets were submitted to an extensive filtering process within non-relational database MongoDB. Hotspot Analysis and Kernel Density Estimation methods were applied, to investigate spatial distribution of tourism relevant tweets under temporal variations. Furthermore, employing the VADER method an integrated semantic analysis provides sentiments of extracted tweets. Spatial analyses showed that detected Hotspots correspond to typical Styrian touristic areas. Apart from mainly successful sentiment analysis, it pointed out also a problematic aspect of working with multilingual data. For evaluation purposes, the official tourism data from the Province of Styria and federal Statistical Office of Austria played a role of ground truth data. An evaluation with Pearson’s correlation coefficient was employed, which proves a statistically significant correlation between Twitter data and reference data. In particular, the paper shows that crowdsourced data on a regional level can serve as accurate indicator for the behaviour and movement of users. [Termes IGN] segmentation sémantiqueRésumé : (auteur) In his classic book “The Image of the City” Kevin Lynch used empirical work to show how different elements of the city were perceived: such as paths, landmarks, districts, edges, and nodes. Streets, by providing paths from which cities can be experienced, were argued to be one of the key elements of cities. Despite this long standing empirical basis, and the importance of Lynch's model in policy associated areas such as planning, work with user generated content has largely ignored these ideas. In this paper, we address this gap, using streets to aggregate filtered user generated content related to more than 1 million images and 60,000 individuals and explore similarity between more than 3000 streets in London across three dimensions: user behaviour, time and semantics. To perform our study we used two different sources of user generated content: (1) a collection of metadata attached to Flickr images and (2) street network of London from OpenStreetMap. We first explore global patterns in the distinctiveness and spatial autocorrelation of similarity using our three dimensions, establishing that the semantic and user dimensions in particular allow us to explore the city in different ways. We then used a Processing tool to interactively explore individual patterns of similarity across these four dimensions simultaneously, presenting results here for four selected and contrasting locations in London. Before drilling into the data to interpret in more detail, the identified patterns demonstrate that streets are natural units capturing perception of cities not only as paths but also through the emergence of other elements of the city proposed by Lynch including districts, landmarks and edges. Our approach also demonstrates how user generated content can be captured, allowing bottom-up perception from citizens to flow into a representation. [Termes IGN] TwitterRésumé : (auteur) Online representations of places are becoming pivotal in informing our understanding of urban life. Content production on online platforms is grounded in the geography of their users and their digital infrastructure. These constraints shape place representation, that is, the amount, quality, and type of digital information available in a geographic area. In this article we study the place representation of user‐generated content (UGC) in Los Angeles County, relating the spatial distribution of the data to its geo‐demographic context. Adopting a comparative and multi‐platform approach, this quantitative analysis investigates the spatial relationship between four diverse UGC datasets and their context at the census tract level (about 685,000 geo‐located tweets, 9,700 Wikipedia pages, 4 million OpenStreetMap objects, and 180,000 Foursquare venues). The context includes the ethnicity, age, income, education, and deprivation of residents, as well as public infrastructure. An exploratory spatial analysis and regression‐based models indicate that the four UGC platforms possess distinct geographies of place representation. To a moderate extent, the presence of Twitter, OpenStreetMap, and Foursquare data is influenced by population density, ethnicity, education, and income. However, each platform responds to different socio‐economic factors and clusters emerge in disparate hotspots. Unexpectedly, Twitter data tend to be located in denser, more deprived areas, and the geography of Wikipedia appears peculiar and harder to explain. These trends are compared with previous findings for the area of Greater London. [Termes IGN] système de recommandationRésumé : (auteur) Location recommendation methods on location-based social networks (LBSN) discover the locational preference of users along with their spatial movement patterns from users’ check-ins and provide users with recommendations of unvisited places. The growing popularity of LBSNs and abundance of shared location information has made location recommendation an active research area in the recent years. However, the existing methods suffer from one or more deficiencies such as data sparsity, cold-start users, ignoring users’ specific spatial and temporal behaviors, not utilizing the shared behaviors of the users. In this paper, we propose a novel location recommendation method, namely Behavior-based Location Recommendation (BLR). BLR recommends a location to a user based on the users’ repetitive behaviors and behaviors of similar users. Additionally, to better integrate the spatial information, BLR has two spatial components, a user-based spatial component to find the spatial preferences of the user, and a behavior-based spatial component to find locations of interest for different behaviors. Experimental studies on three real-world datasets show that BLR produces better location recommendations and can effectively address data sparsity and cold-start problems.
