Note de contenu : Introduction générale

[Termes IGN] restauration de bâtimentRésumé : (auteur) The detection of materials and damage in building facades by means of near-infrared digital images is not a widely explored field in architectural research, especially in rehabilitation and historic building surveys. The aim of this work is to study whether spectral classification image methods, which are frequently used in remote sensing land applications (non-contact geophysical techniques), could be applied in the architectural field to detect various construction materials in historic building facades by means of low-cost photogrammetric equipment. Several classification methodologies were applied to different image band combinations, which led to the conclusion that the highest accuracy is obtained with a multiband image composed of visible and near-infrared bands. We also performed a derived measurement of the real surface of the facing material, demonstrating that low-cost instrumentation could be useful in architectural interventions in cultural heritage to identify construction materials in a non-destructive way. [Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (Auteur) This paper proposes a novel unsupervised feature learning algorithm for land-use scene recognition on very high resolution remote sensing imagery. The proposed technique utilizes a multipath sparse coding architecture in order to capture multiple aspects of discriminative structures within complex remote sensing sceneries. Unlike the previous sparse coding and bag-of-visual-words-based techniques that rely on the handcrafted feature descriptors such as scale-invariant feature transform, the proposed technique extracts dense low-level features from the raw data, including the visual (RGB) data and near-infrared (NIR) data, using image patches of varying sizes at different layers. The proposed technique has been evaluated on three data sets, including the 21-category UC Merced landuse RGB data set with a 1-ft spatial resolution, the 9-category ground scene RGB-NIR data set, and the 10-category Singapore land-use RGB-NIR data set with a 0.5-m spatial resolution. The experimental results show that the proposed technique outperforms the state-of-the-art methods. [Termes IGN] photo-interprétationRésumé : (éditeur) Climate change or other environmental changes may affect the health of plants. Conventional methods for determining how vegetation responds to changes in temperature and humidity measure the reflectance of the visible and near-infrared part of the electromagnetic (EM) spectrum on the leaves. By using a non-destructive thermal infrared spectrometer, the authors demonstrate that persistent stress also affects the thermal infrared emissivity of plants. This finding paves the way for using thermal spectroscopy to monitor responses of vegetation to climate change. [Termes IGN] temps réelRésumé : (auteur) We demonstrate real-time model-based atmospheric correction onboard the Next Generation Airborne Visible/Infrared Imaging Spectrometer. We achieve a reduction in processing time from hours or days to seconds by modifying a standard physics-based atmospheric correction algorithm to support real-time execution. We achieved this reduction by modifying the physics-based ATmospheric REMoval algorithm to leverage a large lookup table of precomputed scattering and transmission coefficients, indexed by parameters specifying the aircraft operating conditions at capture time. Interpolation among the precomputed coefficients allows surface reflectance retrieval at the sensor acquisition rate of 500 Mb/s. Our system produced science-quality reflectance products during over 30 test flights and, to our knowledge, is the first reported demonstration of real-time model-driven visible shortwave infrared atmospheric correction onboard an aircraft.
