[Termes IGN] structure-from-motionRésumé : (Auteur) The ubiquity of cameras built in mobile devices has resulted in a renewed interest in image-based localisation in indoor environments where the global navigation satellite system (GNSS) signals are not available. Existing approaches for indoor localisation using images either require an initial location or need first to perform a 3D reconstruction of the whole environment using structure-from-motion (SfM) methods, which is challenging and time-consuming for large indoor spaces. In this paper, a visual localisation approach is proposed to eliminate the requirement of image-based reconstruction of the indoor environment by using a 3D indoor model. A deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) is fine-tuned using synthetic images obtained from the 3D indoor model to regress the camera pose. Results of the experiments indicate that the proposed approach can be used for indoor localisation in real-time with an accuracy of approximately 2 m. [Termes IGN] structure-from-motionRésumé : (auteur) Most stereovision and Structure from Motion (SfM) methods rely on the pinhole camera model based on perspective projection. From this hypothesis the fundamental matrix and the epipolar constraints are derived, which are the milestones of pose estimation. In this article we present a method based on the matrix factorization due to Tomasi and Kanade that relies on a simpler camera model, resulting in orthographic projection. This method can be used for the pose estimation of perspective cameras in configurations where other methods fail, in particular, when using cameras with long focal length lenses. We show this projection is an approximation of the pinhole camera model when the camera is far away from the scene. The performance of our implementation of this pose estimation method is compared to that given by the perspective-based methods for several configurations using both synthetic and real data. We show through some examples and experiments that the accuracy achieved and the robustness of this method make it worth considering in any SfM procedure. [Termes IGN] structure-from-motionRésumé : (auteur) Frequent and accurate estimation of forest structure parameters, such as number of trees per hectare or total height, are mandatory for sustainable forest management. Unmanned aircraft system (UAS) equipped with inexpensive sensors can be used to monitor and measure forest structure. The detailed information provided by the UAS allows tree level forest inventory. However, tree identification depends on a variety of parameters defining the image processing and tree segmentation algorithms. The objective of our study was to identify parameter combinations that accurately delineated trees and their heights. We evaluated the impact of different tree segmentation and point cloud generation algorithms on forest inventory from imagery collected with a UAS over a mature Douglas-fir plantation forest. We processed the images with two commonly used commercial software packages, Agisoft PhotoScan and Pix4Dmapper, both implementing image processing algorithms called Structure from Motion. For each software we generated photogrammetric point clouds by varying the parameters defining the implementation. We segmented individual trees and heights using three tree algorithms: Variable Window Filter, Graph-Theoretical, and Watershed Segmentation. We assessed the impact of image processing algorithms on forest inventory by comparing the estimated trees with trees manually identified from the point clouds. We found that the type of tree segmentation and image processing algorithms have a significant effect in accurately identifying trees. For tree height estimation, we found strong evidence that image processing algorithms had significant effects, whereas tree segmentation algorithms did not significantly affect tree height estimation. These findings may be of interest to others that are using high-resolution spatial imagery to estimate forest inventory parameters. Note de contenu : Introduction
