[Termes IGN] structure-from-motionRésumé : (Auteur) The primary contribution of this paper is an efficient Structure from Motion (SfM) solution for oblique unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) images. First, an algorithm, considering spatial relationship constraints between image footprints, is designed for match pair selection with the assistance of UAV flight control data and oblique camera mounting angles. Second, a topological connection network (TCN), represented by an undirected weighted graph, is constructed from initial match pairs, which encodes the overlap areas and intersection angles into edge weights. Then, an algorithm, termed MST-Expansion, is proposed to extract the match graph from the TCN, where the TCN is first simplified by a maximum spanning tree (MST). By further analysis of the local structure in the MST, expansion operations are performed on the vertices of the MST for match graph enhancement, which is achieved by introducing critical connections in the expansion directions. Finally, guided by the match graph, an efficient SfM is proposed. Under extensive analysis and comparison, its performance is verified by using three oblique UAV datasets captured with different multi-camera systems. Experimental results demonstrate that the efficiency of image matching is improved, with speedup ratios ranging from 19 to 35, and competitive orientation accuracy is achieved from both relative bundle adjustment (BA) without GCPs (Ground Control Points) and absolute BA with GCPs. At the same time, images in the three datasets are successfully oriented. For the orientation of oblique UAV images, the proposed method can be a more efficient solution. [Termes IGN] structure-from-motionRésumé : (Auteur) Three-dimensional (3D) documentation of heritage buildings has long employed both image-based and range-based techniques. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) provide a particular advantage for image-based techniques in acquiring aerial views, which are difficult to attain using classical terrestrial-based methods. The technological development of optical sensors and dense matching algorithms also complement existing photogrammetric workflows for the documentation of heritage objects. In this paper, fundamental concepts in photogrammetry and 3D reconstruction based on structure from motion (SfM) will be briefly reviewed. Two case studies were performed using two types of UAVs, one being a state-of-the-art platform dedicated to obtaining close-range images. Comparisons with laser scanning data were performed and several issues regarding the aerial triangulation and dense matching results were assessed. The results show that although the dense matching of these UAV images may generate centimetre-level precision, a further increase in precision is often hampered by the quality of the onboard sensor. [Termes IGN] synchronisationRésumé : (auteur) 360° and spherical cameras become popular and are convenient for applications like immersive videos. They are often built by fixing together several fisheye cameras pointing in different directions. However their complete self-calibration is not easy since the consumer fisheyes are rolling shutter cameras which can be unsynchronized. Our approach does not require a calibration pattern. First the multi-camera model is initialized thanks to assumptions that are suitable to an omnidirectional camera without a privileged direction: the cameras have the same setting and are roughly equiangular. Second a frame-accurate synchronization is estimated from the instantaneous angular velocities of each camera provided by monocular structure-from-motion. Third both inter-camera poses and intrinsic parameters are refined using multi-camera structure-from-motion and bundle adjustment. Last we introduce a bundle adjustment that estimates not only the usual parameters but also a sub-frame-accurate synchronization and the rolling shutter. We experiment using videos taken by consumer cameras mounted on a helmet and moving along trajectories of several hundreds of meters or kilometers, and compare our results to ground truth. [Termes IGN] structure-from-motionRésumé : (Auteur) We describe a fast and efficient camera pose refinement and Structure from Motion (SfM) method for sequential aerial imagery with applications to georegistration and 3-D reconstruction. Inputs to the system are 2-D images combined with initial noisy camera metadata measurements, available from on-board sensors (e.g., camera, global positioning system, and inertial measurement unit). Georegistration is required to stabilize the ground-plane motion to separate camera-induced motion from object motion to support vehicle tracking in aerial imagery. In the proposed approach, we recover accurate camera pose and (sparse) 3-D structure using bundle adjustment for sequential imagery (BA4S) and then stabilize the video from the moving platform by analytically solving for the image-plane-to-ground-plane homography transformation. Using this approach, we avoid relying upon image-to-image registration, which requires estimating feature correspondences (i.e., matching) followed by warping between images (in a 2-D space) that is an error prone process for complex scenes with parallax, appearance, and illumination changes. Both our SfM (BA4S) and our analytical ground-plane georegistration method avoid the use of iterative consensus combinatorial methods like RANdom SAmple Consensus which is a core part of many published approaches. BA4S is very efficient for long sequential imagery and is more than 130 times faster than VisualSfM, 35 times faster than MavMap, and about 274 times faster than Pix4D. Various experimental results demonstrate the efficiency and robustness of the proposed pipeline for the refinement of camera parameters in sequential aerial imagery and georegistration.
