[Termes IGN] régression linéaireRésumé : (auteur) Biomass assessment of the Mau Forest Ecosystem (MFE) was done as part of Kenya’s greenhouse gas inventory. Trans Mara and Mount Londiani forest blocks representing extremes of vegetation types in the MFE were selected for ground data. Based on canopy closure, four forest strata were identified as very dense, moderately dense, open and bamboo. In each stratum, 5 clusters each with 4 plots measuring 30 m × 30 m were located. Big trees (D1.3 ≥ 10 cm) were measured per species for diameter at breast height (D1.3) in the whole plot while height was measured for every 5th tree. Poles (10 cm > D1.3 ≤ 5) were measured for D1.3 in a 10 × 10 m concentric sub plot. Saplings (5 cm > D1.3; ht ≥ 1.5 m) and seedlings (ht Numéro de notice : A2014-792 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : FORET Nature : Article DOI : 10.4236/oje.2014.410052 En ligne : http://dx.doi.org/10.4236/oje.2014.410052 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=80344

[Termes IGN] Ventoux, MontRésumé : (auteur) Timely and accurate measurements of forest parameters are critical for ecosystem studies, sustainable forest resources management, monitoring and planning. This paper presents a processing chain for individual tree segmentation over large areas with airborne LiDAR 3D point cloud and very high resolution (VHR) optical imagery. The proposed processing chain consists of forest stand level delineation with optical imagery, individual tree segmentation with Canopy Height Model (CHM) derived from LiDAR point cloud, rough characterization of trees at forest stand level, and point clustering of individual tree with an Adaptive Mean Shift 3D (AMS3D) algorithm. The processing chain is developed with the expectation of supporting operational forest inventory at individual tree level. Experiment is conducted using LiDAR data acquired in Ventoux region, France. Results suggest that the proposed processing chain can be successfully adopted for individual tree characterization over large areas with different forest stands. [Termes IGN] nutrition végétaleRésumé : (auteur) Branch size and branch status (dead or alive) are important characteristics closely related to tree growth and wood quality. The aim of this study was to design models for the diameter and status of branches in Atlas cedar (Cedrus atlantica Manetti). The models were developed from data collected on a set of 32 trees with a wide range of heights (from 3 to 36 m), girths (from 13 to 226 cm), and ages (from 20 to 95 years). A single general segmented model was designed for both whorl and interwhorl branch diameter, taking into account the tree and annual growth unit random effects. The model’s “potential x reducer” form describes the maximum branch diameter profile along the tree and the acrotonic gradient observed in annual shoots. The diameter and status of every branch were modeled based on the vertical position on the trunk and on the height of the base of the living crown. The tree diameter and the branch diameter were used as additional explanatory variables in the branch diameter model and the branch status model, respectively. The model structure is sufficiently general to be suited after re-parameterization for many coniferous species with interwhorl branches such as Spruces, Firs, and Larches. [Termes IGN] régression linéaireRésumé : (auteur) Current methods for accurately estimating vegetation biomass with remote sensing data require extensive, representative and time consuming field measurements to calibrate the sensor signal. In addition, such techniques focus on the topmost vegetation canopy and thus they are of little use over multi-layered forest ecosystems where the underneath strata hold considerable amounts of biomass. This work is the first attempt to estimate biomass by remote sensing without the need for massive in situ measurements. Indeed, we use small-footprint airborne laser scanning (ALS) data to derive key forest metrics, which are used in allometric equations that were originally established to assess biomass using field measurements. Field- and ALS-derived biomass estimates are compared over 40 plots of a multi-layered Mediterranean forest. Linear regression models explain up to 99% of the variability associated with surface vegetation, understory, and overstory biomass.
