[Vedettes matières IGN] GéovisualisationRésumé : (auteur) This article presents a visual variable proposed to help users navigate in a virtual 3D world. This overlay is presented as a disc composed of independent sectors. Each sector conveys information about aggregated data carried from points of interest (POIs). The different parameters of the sectors express different information in a 3D view: the angle the direction of POIs’ group, the color value the density of POIs in this direction and the width of the border their density. This information is quantified the POIs configuration and is updated with users’ navigation. [Vedettes matières IGN] GéovisualisationRésumé : (Auteur) Physically-based, fully-distributed hydrologic models simulate hydrologic state variables in space and time while using information regarding heterogeneity in climate, land use, topography and hydrogeology. Since fine spatio-temporal resolution and increased process dimension will have large data requirements, there is a practical need to strike a balance between descriptive detail and computational load for a particular model application. In this paper, we present a flexible domain decomposition strategy for efficient and accurate integration of the physiographic, climatic and hydrographic watershed features. The approach takes advantage of different GIS feature types while generating high-quality unstructured grids with user-specified geometrical and physical constraints. The framework is able to anchor the efficient capture of spatially distributed and temporally varying hydrologic interactions and also ingest the physical prototypes effectively and accurately from a geodatabase. The proposed decomposition framework is a critical step in implementing high quality, multiscale, multiresolution, temporally adaptive and nested grids with least computational burden. We also discuss the algorithms for generating the framework using existing GIS feature objects. The framework is successfully being used in a finite volume based integrated hydrologic model. The framework is generic and can be used in other finite element/volume based hydrologic models. [Vedettes matières IGN] GéovisualisationRésumé : (auteur) The paper outlines the concept of cartographic style that is applicable to practically every type of maps. The structure of the style is rather complex and can be infuenced by geographic space, time and culture. The purpose of cartographic stylistics is to assure that all the elements of visualization consistently support an appropriate perception of map information by the target group. Three largely independent criteria, that can be separately applied to diferent map components on the one hand and combine composition and other aspects into one system on the other, are specifed as decorativeness, expressiveness and originality. Four major groups of styles have been defined by a general degree of the graphic enhancement of visualised data: ‘minimal’, ‘standard’, conventional and conspicuous. Within conventional and conspicuous stylistic groups, more concrete style types such as laconic, constructive, expressive, lightsome, aggressive, soft, antique, luscious, extravagant and artistic are defined. [Vedettes matières IGN] GéovisualisationRésumé : (Auteur) The GeoJabber concept, protocol, and working prototype software introduced here enable same-time, different-place collaborative geovisualization. The key problem this work addresses is how to turn geovisual software states into persistent textual representations that can be shared between users. In the current implementation, GeoJabber leverages three key Open Source technologies: the GeoViz Toolkit, the Jabber protocol, and XStream. GeoJabber is the first project to support same-time different-place geovisualization tool state sharing. As part of this effort, this paper presents a typology of sharable geovisualization software states, rooted in the concepts of data, display, and category.
