[Termes IGN] zonage (urbanisme)Index. décimale : THESE Thèses et HDR Résumé : (auteur) There has been an increasing need for methods to define priority areas for biodiversity conservation since the effectiveness of biodiversity conservation in protected areas planning depends on available resources (human resources and funds) for the conservation. The identification of priority areas requires the integration of biodiversity data together with social data on human pressures and responses. However, the deficit of comprehensive data and reliable methods are key challenges in zoning where the demand for conservation is most urgent and where the outcomes of conservation strategies can be maximized. In order to fill this gap, the environmental model Pressure–State–Response (PSR) was applied to suggest a set of criteria to identify priority areas for biodiversity conservation. The empirical data have been compiled from 185 respondents, categorizing into three main groups: Governmental Administration, Research Institutions, and Protected Areas in Vietnam, by using a well-designed questionnaire. Then, the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) theory was used to identify the weight of all criteria. These results show that three main factors could identify the priority level for biodiversity conservation: Pressure, State, and Response, with weights of 41%, 26%, and 33%, respectively. Based on the three factors, seven criteria and 17 sub-criteria were developed to determine priority areas for biodiversity conservation. In addition, this study also indicates that the groups of Governmental Administration and Protected Areas put a focus on the “Pressure” factor while the group of Research Institutions emphasized the importance of the “Response” factor in the evaluation process. Then these suggested criteria were applied by integrating with Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) to define priority areas for biodiversity conservation in a particular conservation area (Pu Luong-Cuc Phuong area) in Vietnam. The results also reveal the proportion of very high and high priority areas, accounting for 84.9%, 96%, and 65.9% for Cuc Phuong National Park, Pu Luong Nature Reserve, and Ngoc Son Ngo Luong Nature Reserve, respectively. Based on these results, recommendations were provided to apply the developed criteria for identifying priority areas for biodiversity conservation in Vietnam. Note de contenu : 1- Introduction

[Termes IGN] vision par ordinateurIndex. décimale : THESE Thèses et HDR Résumé : (auteur) Deep convolutional neural networks (DCNN) have recently protagonized a revolution in large-scale object recognition. They have changed the usual computer vision practices of hand-engineered features, with their ability to hierarchically learn representative features from data with a pertinent classifier. Together with hardware advances, they have made it possible to effectively exploit the ever-growing amounts of image data gathered online. However, in specific domains like healthcare and industrial applications, data is much less abundant, and expert labeling costs higher than those of general purpose image datasets. This scarcity scenario leads to this thesis' core question: can these limited-data domains profit from the advantages of DCNNs for image classification? This question has been addressed throughout this work, based on an extensive study of literature, divided in two main parts, followed by proposal of original models and mechanisms. The first part reviews object recognition from an interdisciplinary double-viewpoint. First, it resorts to understanding the function of vision from a biological stance, comparing and contrasting to DCNN models in terms of structure, function and capabilities. Second, a state-of-the-art review is established aiming to identify the main architectural categories and innovations in modern day DCNNs. This interdisciplinary basis fosters the identification of potential mechanisms - inspired both from biological and artificial structures — that could improve image recognition under difficult situations. Recurrent processing is a clear example: while not completely absent from the "deep vision" literature, it has mostly been applied to videos — due to their inherently sequential nature. From biology however it is clear such processing plays a role in refining our perception of a still scene. This theme is further explored through a dedicated literature review focused on recurrent convolutional architectures used in image classification. The second part carries on in the spirit of improving DCNNs, this time focusing more specifically on our central question: deep learning over small datasets. First, the work proposes a more detailed and precise discussion of the small sample problem and its relation to learning hierarchical features with deep models. This discussion is followed up by a structured view of the field, organizing and discussing the different possible paths towards adapting deep models to limited data settings. Rather than a raw listing, this review work aims to make sense out of the myriad of approaches in the field, grouping methods with similar intent or mechanism of action, in order to guide the development of custom solutions for small-data applications. Second, this study is complemented by an experimental analysis, exploring small data learning with the proposition of original models and mechanisms (previously published as a journal paper). In conclusion, it is possible to apply deep learning to small datasets and obtain good results, if done in a thoughtful fashion. On the data path, one shall try gather more information from additional related data sources if available. On the complexity path, architecture and training methods can be calibrated in order to profit the most from any available domain-specific side-information. Proposals concerning both of these paths get discussed in detail throughout this document. Overall, while there are multiple ways of reducing the complexity of deep learning with small data samples, there is no universal solution. Each method has its own drawbacks and practical difficulties and needs to be tailored specifically to the target perceptual task at hand. Note de contenu : 1- Introduction

[Termes IGN] zone à risqueRésumé : (auteur) This study presents a methodology for conducting sensitivity and uncertainty analysis of a GIS-based multi-criteria model used to assess flood vulnerability in a case study in Brazil. The paper explores the robustness of model outcomes against slight changes in criteria weights. One criterion was varied at-a-time, while others were fixed to their baseline values. An algorithm was developed using Python and a geospatial data abstraction library to automate the variation of weights, implement the ANP (analytic network process) tool, reclassify the raster results, compute the class switches, and generate an uncertainty surface. Results helped to identify highly vulnerable areas that are burdened by high uncertainty and to investigate which criteria contribute to this uncertainty. Overall, the criteria ‘houses with improper building material’ and ‘evacuation drills and training’ are the most sensitive ones, thus, requiring more accurate measurements. The sensitivity of these criteria is explained by their weights in the base run, their spatial distribution, and the spatial resolution. These findings can support decision makers to characterize, report, and mitigate uncertainty in vulnerability assessment. The case study results demonstrate that the developed approach is simple, flexible, transparent, and may be applied to other complex spatial problems. [Termes IGN] valeur aberranteRésumé : (Auteur) Image matching is a basic task in the field of photogrammetry and remote sensing. By using the advantages of the Delaunay triangulation, this paper proposes a novel image matching method. First, neighboring structures of randomly distributed feature points are formed with the assistance of the Delaunay triangulation and its corresponding graph, and the image planes are simultaneously divided into patches of near-regular triangles. Second, two constraints, a photometric constraint and a geometric constraint, are implemented based on the constructed neighboring structures, which incorporate the hierarchical elimination and left-right checking strategies to deliver the influences of outliers on the decision of inliers and ensure the high precision of the final matches. The former utilizes a line descriptor as a second-order photometric constraint, and the latter adopts the spatial angular order (SAO) to achieve a geometric constraint for the calculation of dissimilarity scores between correspondences. In addition, with the constraints between triangles of the refined Delaunay triangulation and its corresponding graph, a match expansion is designed to exploit as many inliers as possible. Finally, a reliable image matching algorithm is proposed by sequentially executing the three constraints for outlier elimination and match expansion. Under comprehensive analysis and comparison with five state-of-the-art algorithms, the performance of the proposed method is verified by using both rigid and non-rigid datasets. The experimental results demonstrate that the Delaunay triangulation is sufficient to construct neighboring structures for the implementation of local photometric and geometric constraints, and the proposed method can achieve good performance in terms of the precision, recall and number of inliers, and provide reliable matches for stereo image pairs with both rigid and non-rigid transformations.
