[Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) This paper introduces a new hierarchy for cartographic generalisation processes, applied in street networks. The aims of implementing this hierarchy are to emphasise on significant street features, and to provide more free spaces between street features. The hierarchy is obtained from the functional classes of the features and four centrality measures in a street network, i.e. betweenness, reach, straightness and closeness extracted from a primary graph. The values of centrality measures change in every zoom level by calculating a radius parameter, which depends on the users’ field of view. The coefficients for the measures are constructed using a decision-making technique called fuzzy analytical hierarchy process (FAHP). The weights for each of the centrality measures are computed and normalised to form the proposed hierarchy. The hierarchy is applied and used later in the thinning process to omit insignificant features from the street network in medium scales. [Termes IGN] vulnérabilitéRésumé : (Auteur) Avalanches are behind the majority of fatalities and heavy damage to property in snow-covered mountainous terrain like Himalaya. Recognizing avalanche susceptible areas and publication of avalanche susceptibility maps assist decision-makers and planners to execute suitable measures to reduce the avalanche risk. The present study is an attempt to prepare an avalanche susceptibility map of the Nubra valley region using multi-criteria decision analysis–analytical hierarchy process model in GIS environment. The most prominent avalanche occurrence factors used in this model are slope, aspect, curvature, elevation, terrain roughness and ground cover. ASTER GDEM V2 and Landsat 8 satellite imagery were used to generate considered factors. For validation of the results, prediction rate/accuracy is calculated using the avalanche inventory map of documented avalanche locations. To calculate the prediction accuracy, area under the ROC curve (ROC-AUC) method has been used. The prediction accuracy of the validation results using ROC-AUC shows 91%. A novel methodology for weighting landslide causative factors by integrating statistical feature weighting algorithms was proposed. The primary focus of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of automatic feature weighting algorithms, namely Fisher, Chi-square and Relief-F algorithms. Analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method was used as a benchmark method to compare the performances of the weighting algorithms. All weighted factors were tested using factor-weighted overlay method, and quality of these maps was assessed using overall accuracy, area under the ROC curve (AUC) and success rate curve. In addition, Wilcoxon’s signed-rank test was applied to evaluate statistical differences between both estimated overall accuracies and AUCs, respectively. Results showed that the weights determined by feature weighting methods outperformed the conventional AHP method by about 6% and this level of differences was found to be statistically significant. [Termes IGN] réflectanceRésumé : (Auteur) Due to the coincidence of hyperspectral reflectance nonnegativity (and its corresponding abundance) with nonnegative matrix factorization (NMF) methods, NMF has been widely applied to unmix hyperspectral images in recent years. However, many local minima persist because of the nonconvexity of the objective function. Thus, the nonnegativity constraint is not sufficient and additional auxiliary constraints should be applied to objective functions. In this paper, a new approach we call constrained multilayer NMF (CMLNMF), is proposed for hyperspectral data. In this approach, the mixed spectra are regarded as endmember signatures that has been contaminated by multiplicative noise. The purpose of CMLNMF is to eliminate noise by hierarchical processing until the endmember spectra are obtained. Also, the hierarchical processing is self-adaptive to make the algorithm more effective. Furthermore, in each layer two constraints are implemented on the objective function. One is sparseness on the abundance matrix and the other is minimum volume on the spectral matrix. The hierarchical processing separates the abundance matrix into a series of matrices that make the characteristic of sparseness more obvious and meaningful. The proposed algorithm is applied to synthetic data and real hyperspectral data for quantitative evaluation. According to the comparison with other algorithms, CMLNMF has better performance and provides effective solutions for blind unmixing of hyperspectral image data. [Termes IGN] troncRésumé : (Auteur) We present a data-driven technique to visualize forest landscapes and simulate their future development according to alternative management scenarios. Gentle harvesting intensities were preferred for maintaining scenic values in a test of eliciting public’s preferences based on the simulated landscapes.
Context : Visualizations of future forest landscapes according to alternative management scenarios are useful for eliciting stakeholders’ preferences on the alternatives. However, conventional computer visualizations require laborious tree-wise measurements or simulators to generate these observations.
Aims : We describe and evaluate an alternative approach, in which the visualization is based on reconstructing forest canopy from sparse density, leaf-off airborne laser scanning data.
Methods : Computational geometry was employed to generate filtrations, i.e., ordered sets of simplices belonging to the three-dimensional triangulations of the point data. An appropriate degree of filtering was determined by analyzing the topological persistence of the filtrations. The topology was further utilized to simulate changes to canopy biomass, resembling harvests with varying retention levels. Relative priorities of recreational and scenic values of the harvests were estimated based on pairwise comparisons and analytic hierarchy process (AHP).
Results : The canopy elements were co-located with the tree stems measured in the field, and the visualizations derived from the entire landscape showed reasonably realistic, despite a low numerical correspondence with plot-level forest attributes. The potential and limitations to improve the proposed parameterization are discussed.
