[Vedettes matières IGN] Inventaire forestierRésumé : (auteur) In the year 2011, the German Federal Government adopted its Forest Strategy 2020. This strategy includes 60 goal formulations in nine action fields. The present paper analyses to which extent the results of the German National Forest Inventory (BWI) prove achievements of those of the 60 goals, which are quantitatively verifiable. The results reveal that forestry in Germany in general meets its own standard of multi-functionality, securing that forests fulfil manifold demands of the society. However, while the objectives of nature and climate protection are on track for being achieved, the prospects for objectives related to employment, income and value added are less encouraging. Total forest area and forest growth are increasing, forests currently constitute a carbon sink, and the naturalness and structural diversity of forests are growing. Also the high but sustainable use of the wood fosters currently the income of and employment in forest enterprises and timber industries. But the ongoing regeneration of forest stands predominantly with deciduous tree species is expected to cause a long-term lack of faster growing and higher valuated coniferous stands. The resulting lack of highly demanded softwood of small or medium-sized diameters will raise problems to timber industries. Moreover, shrinking timber production due to a decreasing share of coniferous forests has adverse consequences not only from the economic point of view. It will also decrease the climate-friendly use of wood products, in particular due to the foregone substitution effect. The results of the study also show that BWI is an indispensable source of information for forest politics and forest science particularly in view of its long-term time series. The preservations of time series must be kept in mind whenever changes in the methods of BWI are considered. [Vedettes matières IGN] Economie forestièreRésumé : (Auteur) Ecosystem services (ES) are the benefits that people receive from ecosystems. Understanding the impact of forest management on their supply can inform policy and practice for meeting societal demand. The objectives of this paper are to identify and review the effect of management intensity on priority ES supply and identify synergies and trade-offs among ES of different management approaches. We review seven priority ES identified from UK land and forestry strategy and policy documents: timber/biomass production, carbon storage, biodiversity, health and recreation, water supply and quality and flood protection. We present a synthesis of the impact of management on relative ES supply. It shows that low intensity management is unsuitable for high biomass production, yet provides high or moderately high levels of other services. Higher intensity management impacts negatively on biodiversity, health and recreation and water supply services. Combined objective forestry provides high or moderately high levels for all services except biomass. We recommend that a diversity of management approaches is needed to maintain multiple ecosystem service provision. The ES framework offers opportunities to forest management by revealing areas of conflict or co-production and potential trade-offs that may arise from adjusting management intensity. Over the past 15 years, Geographic Information Systems have become central to applications dealing with territorial planning issues. This third volume of the set is devoted to the presentation and practice in QGIS and its libraries of various applications related to territorial planning. The chapters illustrate the great diversity of case studies, spatial scales and actors involved in this issue: from the world to the city and from objects of special interest, from detection of objects, to studies of location or the impact of works through spatial indicators, urban, agro-forestry or coastal environments. This work is carried out by scientists who are proficient to a high level of technicality. The book is targeted at students (Masters, engineering students, PhDs), engineers and researchers who have already adopted geographic information systems. In addition to the text, readers will have access to data and tools allowing the integral realization of the scientific procedures described in each chapter, as well as screenshots of all the windows which illustrate the manipulations necessary for the realization of each application. Note de contenu : 1.
