[Termes IGN] zone semi-arideRésumé : (auteur) This work is focused on the daily cycle of the backscattering radar coefficient over two different crop Mediterranean types: olive trees and wheat, The MOCTAR experiment consists in the acquisitions of radar fully polarimetric interferometric C-band data acquired continuously at 10 min time step from the top of a tower. The study site is located in semiarid region, near Marrakech, in Morocco. Our first results highlight significant daily variations of intensities and temporal decorrelation, and provide a core database to better explain their link with physical variables such as water content and sapflow. [Termes IGN] surveillance agricoleRésumé : (auteur) This paper addresses the question of temporal decorrelation at C and L-band in the case of olive tree plantations, considering the very recent tower-based experiments in Morocco, as well as the preliminary results conducted in preparation phases. Based on the expertise gained from the TropiScat-1&2 campaigns, the presented experiments also consist in the acquisition of dense time series using a Vector Network Analyser (VNA) connected to several antennas, herein dedicated to L and C-band data. Likewise, this experiment benefit from auxiliary measurements (meteorological and in-situ data) in order to better understand the processes behind temporal decorrelation, which remains a key issue for future repeat-pass, tandem or geostationary missions. Our first results highlight the importance of the acquisition time during the day, and also rise the challenge on how to disentangle the combined effects of water content variations and wind induced displacements driven by solar convection. [Vedettes matières IGN] SylvicultureRésumé : (auteur) Context : The introduced invasive pathogen Hymenoscyphus fraxineus (T. Kowalski) Baral, Queloz, and Hosoya cause extensive damage on European ash (Fraxinus excelsior L.). Heritable variation in susceptibility to ash dieback has been observed among ash trees in natural and planted populations, but it is not clear how variation in susceptibility influences reproductive fitness.
Aims : We hypothesize that healthier male and female trees contribute more gametes to the following generation compared to unhealthy ones.
Methods : We tested the hypothesis by studying gender, seed production, and paternal success in a clonal field trial with 39 replicated clones. In the trial, the susceptibility level of each clone has been recorded in terms of percent crown damage since 2007. We used a linear regression model to explore the relationship between susceptibility and reproductive success (female and male).
Results : The clones revealed a clear gender dimorphism with an approximate 2:2:1 male/female/hermaphrodite ratio. Females with low levels of crown damage produced substantially more seeds compared to highly damaged females. The male clone with the lowest level of susceptibility was the most effective pollen donor, but highly susceptible males also sired some offspring.
Conclusion : The results overall represent good news for the potential recovery of ash forests: selection against most susceptible genotypes at generation turnover is expected to facilitate building up disease resistance in ash populations.Numéro de notice : A2019-040 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : FORET Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.1007/s13595-019-0799-x Date de publication en ligne : 13/02/2019 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1007/s13595-019-0799-x Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=92038

[Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) Identifying ash trees from other common deciduous trees is challenging due to subtle spectral differences of foliage among species. Although many researchers have integrated lidar-derived tree height and crown size metrics to improve tree species classification accuracy, these simple biophysical attributes provide inadequate explanatory power in distinguishing ash trees (Fraxinus, spp.) in urban ecosystems. To address this issue, shape-related features, including crown shape index (SI) and coefficient of variation (CV) of crown height, were extracted from lidar data, and fused with treetopbased spectra for ash tree species identification in Milwaukee City, Wisconsin, United States. Analysis results indicate shape features including SI and CV play a big role in improving the accuracy for ash tree identification. Specifically, Fusion of CV and treetop-based spectra improved the overall accuracy from 81.9 percent to 89 percent, and McNemar tests indicated the differences in accuracy between CV fusion and tree height fusion was statistically significant (p = 0.016).
