[Termes IGN] QGISRésumé : (auteur) Mapping population distribution remains a common need in various fields of studies. Several approaches and methodologies have been adopted to obtain high-resolution population distribution grids. The use of addresses data to obtain gridded population distribution maps emerges as one of the more recent and accurate approaches. The increasing dissemination and availability of geo-data and more specifically address data allow us to obtain updated, granular and high spatial resolution population distribution maps. This paper describes a bottom-up open addresses data mapping-based approach of gridded population distribution with a fine spatial resolution. Through a QGIS plugin, an adaptation of the housing unit methodology was implemented to obtain 500 m × 500 and 250 m × 250 m population grids for mainland Portugal. The results showed that the use of reliable addresses databases can generate gridded population distribution maps with a high degree of adjustment to reality. [Termes IGN] pouvoir de résolution géométriqueRésumé : (auteur) Most pansharpening methods refer to the fusion of the original low-resolution multispectral (MS) and high-resolution panchromatic (PAN) images acquired simultaneously over the same area. Due to its good robustness, multiresolution analysis (MRA) has become one of the important categories of pansharpening methods. However, when only MS and PAN images acquired at different times can be provided, the fusion results from current MRA methods are often not ideal due to the failure to effectively analyze multitemporal misalignments between MS and PAN images from different times. To solve this issue, MRA pansharpening based on variation factor for MS and PAN images from different times is proposed. The MRA pansharpening based on dual-scale regression model is first established, and the variation factor is then introduced to effectively analyze the multitemporal misalignments by using the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM), yielding the final fusion results. Experiments with synthetic and real datasets show that the proposed method exhibits significant performance improvement compared to the traditional pansharpening methods, as well as the state-of-the-art MRA methods. Visual comparisons demonstrate that the variation factor introduces encouraging improvements in the compensation of multitemporal misalignments in ground objects and advances pansharpening applications for MS and PAN images acquired at different times. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) Urban functional zone mapping is essential for providing deeper insights into urban morphology and improving urban planning. The emergence of Volunteered Geographic Information (VGI), which provides abundant semantic data, offers a great opportunity to enrich land use information extracted from remote sensing (RS) images. Taking advantage of very-high-resolution (VHR) images and VGI data, this work proposed a SATL multifeature ensemble learning framework for mapping urban functional zones that integrated 65 features from the shapes of building objects, attributes of points of interest (POIs) tags, locations of cellphone users and textures of VHR images. The dimensionality of SALT features was reduced by the autoencoder, and the compressed features were applied to train the ensemble learning model composed of multiple classifiers for optimizing the urban functional zone classification. The effectiveness of the proposed framework was tested in an urbanized region of Nanchang City. The results indicated that the SALT features considering population dynamics and building shapes are comprehensive and feasible for urban functional zone mapping. The autoencoder has been proven efficient for dimension reduction of the original SALT features as it significantly improves the classification of urban functional zones. Moreover, the ensemble learning outperforms other machine learning models in terms of the accuracy and robustness when dealing with multi-classification tasks. [Termes IGN] temps universel coordonnéRésumé : (auteur) Frequent, low-latency measurements of the Earth’s rotation phase, expressed as UT1−UTC critically support the current estimate and short-term prediction of this highly variable Earth orientation parameter (EOP). Very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) Intensive sessions provide the required data. However, the Intensive UT1−
UTC measurement accuracy depends on the accuracy of numerous models, including the VLBI station position. Intensives observed with the Maunakea (Mk) and Pie Town (Pt) stations of the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) illustrate how a geologic event (i.e., the Mw 6.9 Hawai‘i Earthquake of May 4th, 2018) can cause a station displacement and an associated offset in the values of UT1−UTC measured by that baseline, rendering the data from the series useless until it is corrected. Using the nonparametric Nadaraya–Watson estimator to smooth the measured UT1−UTC values before and after the earthquake, we calculate the offset in the measurement to be 75.7 ± 4.6 μs. Analysis of the sensitivity of the Mk-Pt baseline’s UT1−UTC measurement to station position changes shows that the measured offset is consistent with the 67.2 ± 5.9 μs expected offset based on the 12.4 ± 0.6 mm total coseismic displacement of the Maunakea VLBA station determined from the displacement of the co-located global navigation satellite system (GNSS) station. GNSS station position information is known with a latency on the order of tens of hours and thus can be used to correct the a priori position model of a co-located VLBI station such that it can continue to provide accurate measurements of the critical EOP UT1−UTC as part of Intensive sessions. In the absence of a co-located GNSS receiver, the VLBI station position model would likely not be updated for several months, and a near real-time correction would not be possible. This contrast highlights the benefit of co-located GNSS and VLBI stations in support of the monitoring of UT1−UTC with single-baseline Intensives.
