[Termes IGN] segmentation d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) Superpixel segmentation algorithms attempt to group contiguous image pixels which are in homogeneous regions into segments (superpixels). Superpixel segmentation maps have proven successful in improving the performance of unmixing algorithms on hyperspectral images. For hyperspectral images (HSIs), segment members must contain spectrally similar pixels, a requirement we refer to as segment uniformity. Existing superpixel segmentation algorithms which have been applied to HSIs provide no guarantees on the uniformity inside segments. In the absence of such guarantees, the only viable option is to make the segments small enough that uniformity is always ensured; this leads to an oversegmentation of the image. An accurate uniformity measure would lead to a more accurate segmentation. We propose a graph-based agglomerative approach that enforces segment uniformity by setting a threshold for maximum variability inside segments. The threshold is computed by a statistical analysis of the within-class and between-class spectral divergences of several mineral families of interest. We show that the proposed algorithm can be used to generate parsimonious segmentations and facilitate the computation of accurate mineralogical summaries for several simulated and real HSIs of terrestrial and planetary geological surfaces. [Termes IGN] zone à risqueRésumé : (Auteur) The use of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data is presently well established in operational services for flood management. Nevertheless, detecting inundated vegetation and urban areas still represents a critical issue, because the radar signatures of these targets are often ambiguous. This paper analyzes the role of the interferometric coherence in complementing intensity SAR data for mapping floods in agricultural and urban environments. The advantages of the joint use of intensity and coherence are first discussed in a theoretical way and then verified on a case study, namely, the flood that hit the Emilia-Romagna region (Northern Italy) in January 2014. The short revisit time of the COSMO-SkyMed images, as well as a dedicated acquisition plan tailored to the requirements of the Italian Civil Protection Department, has allowed us to build a data set of radar interferometric observations of the event. Results show that the analysis of the multitemporal trend of the coherence is useful for the interpretation of SAR data since it enables a considerable reduction of classification errors that could be committed considering intensity data only. Interferometric data have permitted us to distinguish zones where water receded from areas where it persisted for a longer time and, in one case, to measure changes of water level. [Termes IGN] image ZiYuan-3Résumé : (Auteur) ZY-3 is the first Chinese civilian high-resolution stereo-mapping satellite, designed for 1:50 000 scale mapping. Although ZY-3 has a very high accuracy for direct image geolocation without ground control points (GCPs), the use of some GCPs is still indispensable for stereo mapping. A novel method is proposed whereby spaceborne Geoscience Laser Altimeter System (GLAS) laser altimetry datasets are viewed as generalised height control points to support a ZY-3 block adjustment. This method separates planimetric and height control, integrating the latter with GLAS data such that, without other GCPs, the vertical accuracy of ZY-3 images can be improved significantly. Both flat and mountainous terrain were selected to evaluate the proposed method. The results show that by adding two GLAS height control points for a single image, or spaced every 50 km in the along-track (orbital) direction for block images, the vertical accuracy can satisfy the requirements of 1:50 000 scale mapping, thus reducing the need for field surveying. Additionally, the method will be valuable for integrating spaceborne laser altimetry data and optical images for global mapping without any GCPs. [Termes IGN] réseau routierRésumé : (auteur) Modern satellites tag their images with geolocation information using GPS and star tracking systems. Depending on the quality of the geopositioning equipment, errors may range from a few meters to tens of meters on the ground. At the current state of art, there is no established method to automatically correct these errors limiting the large-scale joint utilization of cross-platform satellite images. In this paper, an automatic geolocation correction framework that corrects images from multiple satellites simultaneously is presented. As a result of the proposed correction process, all the images are effectively registered to the same absolute geodetic coordinate frame. The usability and the quality of the correction framework are demonstrated through a 3-D surface reconstruction application. The 3-D surface models given by original satellite geopositioning metadata, and the corrected metadata, are compared. The quality difference is measured through an entropy-based metric applied to the orthographic height maps given by the 3-D surface models. Measuring the absolute accuracy of the framework is harder due to lack of publicly available high-precision ground surveys. However, the geolocation of images of exemplar satellites from different parts of the globe are corrected, and the road networks given by OpenStreetMap are projected onto the images using original and corrected metadata to demonstrate the improved quality of alignment.
