[Termes IGN] rapport signal sur bruitRésumé : (auteur) Wealthy spectral information provided by hyperspectral image (HSI) offers great benefits for many applications in hyperspectral data exploitation. However, processing such high-dimensional data volumes that may result in redundant bands due to its high interband correlation will be a challenge. For target detection and classification, this is particularly true since there may only need a relatively small number of bands that respond one particular target of interest well, while most of other bands do not. Band selection (BS) is a major dimensionality reduction technique to remove the redundant bands and selects a few bands to represent the entire image. However, how to eliminate the effect of uninteresting targets with similar spectra on detection of interesting targets is a severe issue arising in target detection for BS. This article develops a new approach called target-constrained interference-minimized BS (TCIMBS) which can be used to select band subset for specific target detection, while annihilating targets of no interest and suppressing interferers and background. Its idea is derived from target-constrained interference-minimized filter (TCIMF). By taking advantage of TCIMF, two band prioritization (BP) criteria called forward minimum variance BP (FMinV-BP) and backward maximum variance BP (BMaxV-BP) along with their three band search-based BS counterparts called sequential forward TCIMBS (SF-TCIMBS), sequential backward TCIMBS (SB-TCIMBS), and improved SB-TCIMBS (SB-TCIMBS*) are derived. The experimental results suggest that TCIMBS can improve the detection accuracy and also achieve better performance in comparison with several state-of-the-art methods. [Termes IGN] précision radiométriqueRésumé : (Auteur) Bundle adjustment (BA) is a technique for refining sensor orientations of satellite images, while adjustment accuracy is correlated with feature matching results. Feature matching often contains high uncertainties in weak/repeat textures, while BA results are helpful in reducing these uncertainties. To compute more accurate orientations, this article incorporates BA and feature matching in a unified framework and formulates the union as the optimization of a global energy function so that the solutions of the BA and feature matching are constrained with each other. To avoid a degeneracy in the optimization, we propose a comprised solution by breaking the optimization of the global energy function into two-step suboptimizations and compute the local minimums of each suboptimization in an incremental manner. Experiments on multi-view high-resolution satellite images show that our proposed method outperforms state-of-the-art orientation techniques with or without accurate least-squares matching. [Termes IGN] segmentationRésumé : (Auteur) Tree height and crown diameter are two common individual tree attributes that can be estimated from Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) images thanks to photogrammetry and structure from motion. This research investigates the potential of low-cost UAV aerial images to estimate tree height and crown diameter. Two successful flights were carried out in two different seasons corresponding to leaf-off and leaf-on conditions to generate Digital Terrain Model (DTM) and Digital Surface Model (DSM), which were further employed in calculation of a Canopy Height Model (CHM). The CHM was used to estimate tree height using low pass and local maximum filters, and crown diameter was estimated based on an Invert Watershed Segmentation (IWS) algorithm. UAV-based tree height and crown diameter estimates were validated against field measurements and resulted in 3.22 m (10.1%) and 0.81 m (7.02%) RMSE, respectively. The results showed high agreement between our estimates and field measurements, with R2=0.808 for tree height and R2=0.923 for crown diameter. Generally, the accuracy of the results was considered acceptable and confirmed the usefulness of this approach for estimating tree heights and crown diameter. Airborne Laser Scanning (ALS) is known for producing accurate wall-to-wall predictions but the data are at present collected at long time intervals. Digital Photogrammetry (DP) is cheaper and often more frequently available but known to be less accurate. This study investigates the potential of using contemporary DP data together with older ALS data and compares this with the case when only old ALS data are trained with recent field data. Combining ALS data from 2010 to 2011 with DP data from 2015, both trained with National Forest Inventory (NFI) field plot data from 2015, improved predictions of growing stock volume. Validation using data from 100 stands inventoried in 2015 gave an RMSE of 24.3% utilizing both old ALS data and recent DP data, 26.0% for old ALS only and 24.9% for recent DP only. If information about management actions were assumed available, combining old ALS and recent DP gave RMSE of 23.0%, only ALS 23.3% and only DP 23.8%. [Vedettes matières IGN] Inventaire forestierRésumé : (auteur) Advances in remote sensing technologies are generating new perspectives concerning the role of and methods used for National Forestry Inventories (NFIs). The increase in computation capabilities over the last several decades and the development of new statistical techniques have allowed for the automation of forest resource map generation through image analysis techniques and machine learning algorithms. The availability of large-scale data and the high temporal resolution that satellite platforms provide mean that it is possible to obtain updated information about forest resources at the stand level, thus increasing the quality of the spatial information. However, photointerpretation of satellite and aerial images is still the most common way that remote sensing information is used for NFIs or forest management purposes. This study describes a methodology that automatically maps the main forest covers in Galicia (Eucalyptus spp., conifers and broadleaves) using Worldview-2 and the random forest classifier. Furthermore, the method also evaluates the separate mapping of the three most abundant Pinus tree species in Galicia (Pinus pinaster, Pinus radiata and Pinus sylvestris). According to the results, Worldview-2 multispectral images allow for the efficient differentiation between the main forest classes that are present in Galicia with a very high degree of accuracy (91%) and ample spatial detail. Pinus species can also be efficiently differentiated (83%).
