[Termes IGN] segmentation sémantiqueRésumé : (auteur) Not all errors are created equal. This is especially true for many key machine learning applications. In the case of classification tasks, the severity of errors can be summarized under the form of a cost matrix, which assesses the gravity of confusing each pair of classes. When the target classes are organized into a hierarchical structure, this matrix defines a metric. We propose to integrate this metric in a new and versatile classification layer in order to model the disparity of errors. Our method relies on jointly learning a feature-extracting network and a set of class representations, or prototypes, which incorporate the error metric into their relative arrangement in the embedding space. Our approach allows for consistent improvement of the severity of the network's errors with regard to the cost matrix. Furthermore, when the induced metric contains insight on the data structure, our approach improves the overall precision as well. Experiments on four different public datasets -- from agricultural time series classification to depth image semantic segmentation -- validate our approach. In short, documents are replaced with databases, processes are automated, and timelines become more circular with an emphasis on managing the life cycles of all manufactured objects. This has both direct and indirect consequences for the fields of geodesy and geographic information. Although geodesy and surveying have played a vital role in the construction process for a long time, new data standards and higher degrees of prefabrication and automation in the actual construction means that the topic of georeferencing must be revisited. In addition, using object oriented data structures means that semantic information must be inferred from geodata such as point clouds and images in order to adequately document existing assets. This thesis addresses the handling of 3D spatial information by analyzing different georeferencing methods and metadata used to describe the quality and characteristics of geodata. The outcomes include a recommendation for how the open BIM standard Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) could be extended to support more robust georeferencing, a suggestion that all standards and exchange formats used forthe built environment should include metadata for tolerance and uncertainty, and a framework that can describe characteristics of 3D spatial data that are not covered by conventional geographic metadata. On the semantic side, this thesis proposes an image-based method for identifying roadside objects in mobile laser scanning (MLS) point clouds, and it also explores the possibilities to train neural networks for point cloud segmentation by creating training data from 3D mesh models used in infrastructure design. Overall, the thesis describes the connection between model and reality, the importance of geodesy and geodetic surveying in this context, and makes contributions to both the geometric and semantic aspects of modeling the built environment. [Termes IGN] segmentation sémantiqueIndex. décimale : THESE Thèses et HDR Résumé : (Auteur) Only using RGB cameras for automatic outdoor scene analysis is challenging when, for example, facing insufficient illumination or adverse weather. To improve the recognition reliability, multispectral systems add additional cameras (e.g. infra-red) and perform object detection from multispectral data. Although multispectral scene analysis with deep learning has been shown to have a great potential, there are still many open research questions and it has not been widely deployed in industrial contexts. In this thesis, we investigated three main challenges about multispectral object detection: (1) the fast and accurate detection of objects of interest from images; (2) the dynamic and adaptive fusion of information from different modalities;(3) low-cost and low-energy multispectral object detection and the reduction of its manual annotation efforts. In terms of the first challenge, we first optimize the label assignment of the object detection training with a mutual guidance strategy between the classification and localization tasks; we then realize an efficient compression of object detection models including the teacher-student prediction disagreements in a feature-based knowledge distillation framework. With regard to the second challenge, three different multispectral feature fusion schemes are proposed to deal with the most difficult fusion cases where different cameras provide contradictory information. For the third challenge, a novel modality distillation framework is firstly presented to tackle the hardware and software constraints of current multispectral systems; then a multi-sensor-based active learning strategy is designed to reduce the labeling costs when constructing multispectral datasets. [Termes IGN] série temporelleRésumé : (auteur) Unprecedented access to multi-temporal satellite imagery has opened new perspectives for a variety of Earth observation tasks. Among them, pixel-precise panoptic segmentation of agricultural parcels has major economic and environmental implications. While researchers have explored this problem for single images, we argue that the complex temporal patterns of crop phenology are better addressed with temporal sequences of images. In this paper, we present the first end-to-end, single-stage method for panoptic segmentation of Satellite Image Time Series (SITS). This module can be combined with our novel image sequence encoding network which relies on temporal self- attention to extract rich and adaptive multi-scale spatio- temporal features. We also introduce PASTIS, the first open- access SITS dataset with panoptic annotations. We demonstrate the superiority of our encoder for semantic segmentation against multiple competing architectures, and set up the first state-of-the-art of panoptic segmentation of SITS. Our implementation and PASTIS are publicly available.
