[Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (auteur) Background : In the last decade Photogrammetry has shown to be a valid alternative to LiDAR techniques for the generation of dense point clouds in many applications. However, dealing with large image sets is computationally demanding. It requires high performance hardware and often long processing times that makes the photogrammetric point cloud generation not suitable for mapping purposes at regional and national scale. These limitations are partially overcome by commercial solutions, thanks to the use of expensive and dedicated hardware. Nonetheless, a Free and Open-Source Software (FOSS) photogrammetric solution able to cope with these limitations is still missing.
Methods : In this paper, the bottlenecks of the basic components of photogrammetric workflows -tie-points extraction, bundle block adjustment (BBA) and dense image matching- are tackled implementing FOSS solutions. We present distributed computing algorithms for the tie-points extraction and for the dense image matching. Moreover, we present two algorithms for decreasing the memory needs of the BBA. The various algorithms are deployed on different hardware systems including a computer cluster.
Results and conclusions : The usage of the algorithms presented allows to process large image sets reducing the computational time. [Termes IGN] topologieRésumé : (Auteur) Structure-from-Motion (SfM) techniques have been widely used for 3D scene reconstruction from multi-view images. However, due to the large computational costs of SfM methods there is a major challenge in processing highly overlapping images, e.g. images from unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). This paper embeds a novel skeletal camera network (SCN) into SfM to enable efficient 3D scene reconstruction from a large set of UAV images. First, the flight control data are used within a weighted graph to construct a topologically connected camera network (TCN) to determine the spatial connections between UAV images. Second, the TCN is refined using a novel hierarchical degree bounded maximum spanning tree to generate a SCN, which contains a subset of edges from the TCN and ensures that each image is involved in at least a 3-view configuration. Third, the SCN is embedded into the SfM to produce a novel SCN-SfM method, which allows performing tie-point matching only for the actually connected image pairs. The proposed method was applied in three experiments with images from two fixed-wing UAVs and an octocopter UAV, respectively. In addition, the SCN-SfM method was compared to three other methods for image connectivity determination. The comparison shows a significant reduction in the number of matched images if our method is used, which leads to less computational costs. At the same time the achieved scene completeness and geometric accuracy are comparable. First, we present a progressive point cloud segmentation algorithm based on Total Least Squares (TLS) line fitting. Second, we group topologically connected point clusters by the point's orientation and cluster's spatial proximity, where the topological relationship is generated using Hidden Markov Model (HMM) map matching. Finally, we refine the intersections of roads so that their geometrical and topological relationships are consistent with each other. Experimental results show that our algorithm is robust to noises and the generated road network has a high accuracy in terms of geometry and topology. Compare to the representative algorithms; the results of our new algorithm have a higher F-measure score for different matching thresholds. [Termes IGN] image hyperspectraleRésumé : (Auteur) The trichromatic visualization of hundreds of bands in a hyperspectral image (HSI) has been an active research topic. The visualized image shall convey as much information as possible from the original data and facilitate easy image interpretation. However, most existing methods display HSIs in false color, which contradicts with user experience and expectation. In this paper, we propose a new framework for visualizing an HSI with natural color by the fusion of an HSI and a high-resolution color image via manifold alignment. Manifold alignment projects several data sets to a shared embedding space where the matching points between them are pairwise aligned. The embedding space bridges the gap between the high-dimensional spectral space of the HSI and the RGB space of the color image, making it possible to transfer natural color and spatial information in the color image to the HSI. In this way, a visualized image with natural color distribution and fine spatial details can be generated. Another advantage of the proposed method is its flexible data setting for various scenarios. As our approach only needs to search a limited number of matching pixel pairs that present the same object, the HSI and the color image can be captured from the same or semantically similar sites. Moreover, the learned projection function from the hyperspectral data space to the RGB space can be directly applied to other HSIs acquired by the same sensor to achieve a quick overview. Our method is also able to visualize user-specified bands as natural color images, which is very helpful for users to scan bands of interest.
