[Termes IGN] signal lidarRésumé : (Auteur) In recent years, airborne LiDAR sensors have shown remarkable performance in the mapping of forest vegetation. This experimental study looks at LiDAR data at the scale of individual pulses to elucidate the sources behind interpulse variation in backscattering. Close-range photogrammetry was used for obtaining the canopy reference measurements at the ratio scale. The experiments illustrated different orientation techniques in the field, LiDAR acquisitions and photogrammetry in both leaf-on and leaf-off conditions, and two-waveform recording LiDAR sensors. The intrafootprint branch silhouettes in zenith-looking images, in which the camera, footprint, and LiDAR sensor were collinear, were extracted and contrasted with LiDAR backscattering. An enhanced planimetric match (refinement of strip matching) was achieved by shifting the pulses in a strip and searching for the maximal correlation between the silhouette and LiDAR intensity. The relative silhouette explained up to 80–90% of the interpulse variation. We tested whether accounting for the Gaussian spread of intrafootprint irradiance would improve the correlations, but the effect was blurred by small-scale geometric noise. Accounting for receiver gain variations in the Leica ALS60 sensor data strengthened the dependences. The size of the vegetation objects required for triggering a LiDAR observation was analyzed. We demonstrated the use of LiDAR pulses adjacent to canopy vegetation, which did not trigger a canopy echo, for canopy mapping. Pulses not triggering an echo constitute the complement to the actual canopy. We conclude that field photogrammetry is a useful tool for mapping forest canopies from below and that quantitative analysis is feasible even at the scale of single pulses for enhanced understanding of LiDAR observations from vegetation. [Termes IGN] télémétrie laser terrestreRésumé : (Auteur) An indirect method for the georeferencing of 3D point clouds obtained with terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) data using control lines is presented. This technique could be used for rapid data acquisition where resources do not permit the use of expensive navigation sensors or the placement of pre-signalised targets. The most important characteristic is the development of a mathematical model based on the principle that the direction vector of the TLS straight line is coplanar with the plane defined by the origin of the TLS system, one endpoint of a control line and the direction vector of the control line in the ground reference coordinate system. The transformation parameters are estimated by minimising the distance between the control lines and their corresponding TLS straight lines. The proposed method was tested using both simulated and real data, and the advantages of this new approach are compared with conventional surveying methods. [Termes IGN] transformation de HoughRésumé : (Auteur) Land-based mobile mapping system (MMS) technology provides an innovative way to update geospatial information, characterised by rapid data collection and direct georeferencing. This paper presents a new method for automatically updating large scale maps using sequential MMS imagery. A major component of the technique is the extraction of vertical lines from such imagery through an improved Hough transform and vanishing point classification. These lines are stereomatched using an epipolar constraint and random sample consensus (RANSAC) strategy, with object space positions obtained by photogrammetric intersection. Buildings are recognised based on these vertical lines in conjunction with basic polygon templates, allowing maps to be updated. [Termes IGN] phaseRésumé : (Auteur) The obvious directionality inherent in interferometric synthetic aperture radar interferograms allows noise to be filtered very effectively along the fringe direction, leaving the fringe phase undamaged. This paper proposes a highly reliable method for the simultaneous estimation of the direction and density of interferograms, on the basis of which a directionally adaptive filter (DAF) is further proposed. Compared with existing filters, the DAF has a filter window whose direction is able to vary continuously with the fringe direction. The window length and width can be varied adaptively with the fringe density: a large window achieves better filtering results when the fringes are sparse, whereas a small window is better able to preserve the phase detail when they are dense. The processing results of both simulated and real data demonstrate that the DAF effectively eliminates noise and preserves detailed fringe information because its filter window performs adaptively in terms of both direction and size. [Termes IGN] transformationRésumé : (Auteur) Homologous feature point extraction is a key problem in the multi-sensor image registration. In this paper, a new feature point extraction method using nonsubsampled contourlet transform (NSCT) and an adaptive shrink operator (ASO_NSCT) for multi-sensor image registration is proposed. Moreover, this proposed feature matching is different from the traditional feature matching strategies and is performed using a similarity measure computed from neighborhood circles in low-frequency bands. Then, a number of reliable matched couples with even distributions are obtained, which assures the accuracy of the registration. Applications of the proposed algorithm to different optical images as well as optical and synthetic aperture radar images show that, in each case, a large number of accurate matched couples could be identified. Additionally, the RMSE patterns are analyzed and comparisons of the parameters are carried out between the registration models and the actual ground structures, which further demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
