[Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Integration of geographic information has increased in importance because of new possibilities arising from the interconnected world and the increasing availability of geographic information. Ontologies support the creation of conceptual models and help with information integration. In this paper, we propose a way to link the formal representation of semantics (i.e., ontotogies) to conceptual schemas describing information stored in databases. The main result is a formal framework that explains a mapping between a spatial ontology and a geographic conceptual schema. The mapping of ontologies to conceptual schemas is made using three different levels of abstraction: formal, domain, and application levels. At the formal level, highly abstract concepts are used to express the schema and the ontologies. At the domain level, the schema is regarded as an instance of a generic data model. At the application level, we focus on the particular case of geographic applications. We also discuss the influence of ontologies in both the traditional and geographic systems development methodologies, with an emphasis on the conceptual design phase. [Termes IGN] terrainRésumé : (Auteur) Soil erosion is widely predicted as a function of six input factors, including rainfall erosivity, soil erodibility, slope length, slope steepness, cover management, and support practice. Because of the multiple factors, their interactions, and their spatial and temporal variability, accurately mapping the factors and further soil loss is very difficult. This paper compares two geostatistical methods and a traditional stratification to map the factors and to estimate soil loss. Soil loss is estimated by integrating a sample ground data set, TM images, and a slope map. The geostatistical methods include collocated cokriging and a joint sequential cosimulation model. With both geostatistical methods, local estimates and variances at any location where the factors and soil loss are unknown can be computed. The results showed that the two geostatistical methods performed significantly better than traditional stratification in terms of overall and spatially explicit estimates. Furthermore, the cokriging led to higher accuracy of mean estimates than did the cosimulation, while the latter provided decision makers with reliable uncertainties of the local estimates as useful information to assess risk when making decisions based on the prediction maps. The changes of JERS1 backscatter and ERS1/2 tandem coherence between images are consistent over the area studied, in contrast to ERS1/2 backscatter. A modelbased regression analysis has been performed, and the use of the model for inversion is discussed and compared with other approaches found in the literature. The model parameters are discussed in terms of their relation to wind speed and temperature. Results from the different acquisitions are combined to improve the stem volume estimation. The accuracy in terms of rms error (RMSE) for standwise estimated stem volume is 310 m/ha using ERS1/2 coherence. Using backscatter and coherence from JERS1 we obtain an RMSE of 33035 m/ha. Finally, conditions for accurate retrieval of stem volume using multitemporal InSAR observations are discussed. We conclude that G and Lband repeatpass InSAR can provide stem volume estimates in boreal forests with accuracies similar to those of standard in situ measurements. [Termes IGN] système expertRésumé : (Auteur) Land consolidation is a strategic instrument for rural planning and thus economic development in the Spanish region of Galicia. This paper describes an experimental system embedded in a GIS environment to aid rural engineers to develop land consolidation plans. The system supports all the stages of the plan and many functionalities are implemented as heuristic processes based on expert knowledge and advice. The overall aim is to overcome administrative and technical problems of traditional consolidation procedures. The system provides an integrated framework for the management of spatial and administrative consolidation information. It also includes optimization based algorithms for the automated generation of multiple alternative parcel reallocations, as well as an environment to refine and objectively evaluate the proposed solutions. These key capabilities result in a powerful tool for decision making that dramatically reduces the time and cost of land consolidation plans. Pilot experiences in two consolidation zones of Galicia assess the feasibility and effectiveness of the system.
