[Termes IGN] zone semi-arideRésumé : (auteur) Radar data at C-band has shown great potential for the monitoring of soil and canopy hydric conditions of wheat crops. In this study, the C-band Sentinel-1 time series including the backscattering coefficients σ0 at VV and VH polarization, the polarization ratio (PR) and the interferometric coherence ρ are first analyzed with the support of experimental data gathered on three plots of irrigated winter wheat located in the Haouz plain in the center of Morocco covering five growing seasons. The results showed that ρ and PR are tightly related to the canopy development. ρ is also sensitive to soil preparation. By contrast, σ0 was found to be widely linked to changes in surface soil moisture (SSM) during the first growth stages when Leaf Area Index remains moderate ( Numéro de notice : A2020-337 Affiliation des auteurs : UGE-LASTIG+Ext (2020- ) Thématique : IMAGERIE Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.1016/j.rse.2020.112050 Date de publication en ligne : 24/08/2020 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1016/j.rse.2020.112050 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=96939

[Termes IGN] zone semi-arideRésumé : (auteur) The aim of this study is to compare the effect of two sampling patterns: systematic sampling and Latin hypercube sampling (LHS), on estimation precision of snow water equivalent (SWE), and also comparing different geostatistics methods of kriging, cokriging and radial basin functions for mapping SWE. To achieve the study purpose, the semi-arid mountainous watershed of Sohrevard in Zanjan Province of Iran was selected. Snow depth in 150 points with systematic sampling and 150 points with LHS sampling and snow density in 18 points were randomly measured. In addition, SWE was calculated in the study area, and its map was derived based on both the sampling methods using geostatistical techniques. The results showed that the accuracy of the SWE map using LHS was higher than systematic sampling. According to the most statistical indicators, in both methods of sampling, accuracy of mapping using regular spline was better than other methods. [Termes IGN] zone semi-arideRésumé : (auteur) The Mediterranean region is characterized by intense rainfall events giving rise to devastating floods. In Maghreb countries such as Morocco, there is a strong need for forecasting systems to reduce the impacts of floods. The development of such a system in the case of ungauged catchments is complicated, but remote-sensing products could overcome the lack of in situ measurements. The soil moisture content can strongly modulate the magnitude of flood events and consequently is a crucial parameter to take into account for flood modeling. In this study, different soil moisture products (European Space Agency Climate Change Initiative, ESA-CCI; Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity, SMOS; Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity by the Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique and Centre d'Etudes Spatiales de la Biosphère, SMOS-IC; Advanced Scatterometer, ASCAT; and ERA5 reanalysis) are compared to in situ measurements and one continuous soil-moisture-accounting (SMA) model for basins located in the High Atlas Mountains, upstream of the city of Marrakech. The results show that the SMOS-IC satellite product and the ERA5 reanalysis are best correlated with observed soil moisture and with the SMA model outputs. The different soil moisture datasets were also compared to estimate the initial soil moisture condition for an event-based hydrological model based on the Soil Conservation Service curve number (SCS-CN). The ASCAT, SMOS-IC, and ERA5 products performed equally well in validation to simulate floods, outperforming daily in situ soil moisture measurements that may not be representative of the whole catchment soil moisture conditions. The results also indicated that the daily time step may not fully represent the saturation state before a flood event due to the rapid decay of soil moisture after rainfall in these semiarid environments. Indeed, at the hourly time step, ERA5 and in situ measurements were found to better represent the initial soil moisture conditions of the SCS-CN model by comparison with the daily time step. The results of this work could be used to implement efficient flood modeling and forecasting systems in semiarid regions where soil moisture measurements are lacking. [Termes IGN] surface cultivéeRésumé : (auteur) The combined study of vegetation coverage (VC) and land use change provides important scientific guidance for the restoration and protection of arid regions. Taking Hongjian Nur (HJN) Lake in the desert region as a case study, the VC of this area was calculated using a normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), which is based on a mixed pixel decomposition method. A grey forecasting model (GM) (1, 1) was used to predict future VC. The driving factors of VC and land use change were analyzed. The results indicate that the average VC of the whole watershed showed a gradual increase from 0.29 to 0.49 during 2000–2017. The prediction results of the GM VC showed that the greening trend is projected to continue until 2027. The area of farmland in the watershed increased significantly and its area was mainly converted from unused land, grassland, and forest. The reason for increased VC may be that the combination of the exploitation of unused land and climate change, which is contrary to the country’s sustainable development goals (SDG; goal 15). Therefore, the particularities of the local ecological environment in China’s desert area needs to be considered in the development of ecological engineering projects.
