[Termes IGN] quantité discrèteRésumé : (Auteur) Geoscientific datasets are often formed by scattered samples in 3D space having highly anisotropic distribution. To model the continuity of the phenomena they represent (e.g. temperature of a body of water, or percentage of a chemical in the air) raster structures are in most cases used. To overcome the shortcomings of rasters the Voronoi diagram (VD) has been proposed as an alternative. However, while in theory the VD is a sound solution, its use in practice is hindered by the fact that it is complex to construct and to manipulate (removal of samples, interpolation, etc.), and spatial tools have to be built. We propose in this paper a “middle" solution: the 3D discrete Voronoi diagram (DVD). We investigate the properties of the 3D DVD, we propose algorithms to construct and manipulate it, and we demonstrate its use in practice with a prototype that we have built. Our prototype uses existing tools for visualisation and further analysis of DVDs. [Termes IGN] Référence-3DRésumé : (auteur) Onboard SPOT 5, the HRS instrument systematically collects stereopairs around the Globe since 2002. Each stereopair can encompass an area up to 600 km x 120 km within a single pass (i.e. 72 000 km² stereoscopic strips). From this time, SPOT 5 stereoscopic imagery becomes one of main satellite data sources for accurate DEM extraction. Spot Image and French National Cartographic Institute (IGN) decided in 2002 to design and build a worldwide accurate database called Reference3D™ using HRS data. This database consists of three information layers: Digital Elevation Model at 1-arc-second resolution (DTED level 2), Orthoimage at 5m resolution and Quality Masks. Huge efforts have been made to standardize the process in order to offer affordable prices. [Termes IGN] triangulation de DelaunayRésumé : (auteur) Planar partitions—full tessellations of the plane into non-overlapping polygons—are frequently used in GIS to model concepts such as land cover, cadastral parcels or administrative boundaries. Since in practice planar partitions are often stored as a set of individual objects (polygons) to which attributes are attached (e.g. stored with a shapefile), and since different errors/mistakes can be introduced during their construction, manipulation or exchange, several inconsistencies will often arise in practice. The inconsistencies are for instance overlapping polygons, gaps and unconnected polygons. We present in this paper a novel algorithm to validate such planar partitions. It uses a constrained triangulation as a support for the validation, and permits us to avoid different problems that arise with existing solutions based on the construction of a planar graph. We describe in the paper the details of our algorithm, our implementation, how inconsistencies can be detected, and the experiments we have made with real-world data (the CORINE2000 dataset).
