Arctic TCWV distribution, trends, and anomalies for the 2001–2015 period, broken down into seasons and months, are analysed. Enhanced local spring TCWV trends above the terrestrial Arctic regions are discussed in relation to land snow cover and vegetation changes. Upward TCWV trends above the oceanic areas are discussed in lien with sea ice extent and sea surface temperature changes. Increased winter TCWV (up to 40%) south of the Svalbard archipelago are observed; these trends are probably driven by a local warming and sea ice extent decline. Similarly, the Barents/Kara regions underwent wet trends (up to 40%), also associated with winter/fall local sea ice loss. Positive late summer TCWV trends above the western Greenland and Beaufort seas (about 20%) result from enhanced upper ocean warming and thereby a local coastal decline in ice extent. The Mackenzie and Siberia enhanced TCWV trends (about 25%) during spring are found to be associated with coincident decreased snow cover and increased vegetation, as a result of the earlier melt onset. Results show drier summers in the Eurasia and western Alaska regions, thought to be affected by changes in albedo from changing vegetation. Other TCWV anomalies are also presented and discussed in relation to the dramatic decline in sea ice extent and the exceptional rise in sea surface temperature. [Termes IGN] vitesse de déplacementRésumé : (Auteur) For various geodetic and geophysical applications, users need to have access to a plate motion model (PMM) that is consistent with the ITRF2014 frame. This paper describes the approach used for determining a PMM from the horizontal velocities of a subset of the ITRF2014 sites away from plate boundaries, Glacial Isostatic Adjustment regions and other deforming zones. In theory, it would be necessary to include in the inversion model a translational motion vector (called in this paper origin rate bias, ORB) that would represent the relative motion between the ITRF2014 origin (long-term averaged centre of mass of the Earth as sensed by SLR) and the centre of tectonic plate motion. We show that in practice, the magnitude of the estimated ORB is strongly dependent on the selection of ITRF2014 sites used for the PMM adjustment. Its Z-component can in particular range between 0 and more than 1 mm yr−1 depending on the station network used, preventing any geophysical interpretation of the estimated value. Relying on rigorous statistical criteria, the site selection finally adopted for the ITRF2014-PMM adjustment leads to a relatively small ORB (0.30 ± 0.18 mm yr−1 in the Z-component), which is statistically insignificant at the 2-sigma level, but also according to an F-ratio test. Therefore we opted for an ITRF2014-PMM without estimating the ORB, which in turn accommodates geodetic applications that require access to the ITRF2014 frame through pure plate rotation poles. [Termes IGN] invariantRésumé : (Auteur) We are interested in the large time behavior of the solutions to the growth-fragmentation equation. We work in the space of integrable functions weighted with the principal dual eigenfunction of the growth-fragmentation operator. This space is the largest one in which we can expect convergence to the steady size distribution. Although this convergence is known to occur under fairly general conditions on the coefficients of the equation, we prove that it does not happen uniformly with respect to the initial data when the fragmentation rate in bounded. First we get the result for fragmentation kernels which do not form arbitrarily small fragments by taking advantage of the Dyson–Phillips series. Then we extend it to general kernels by using the notion of quasi-compactness and the fact that it is a topological invariant. [Termes IGN] particuleRésumé : (auteur) This article proposes a derivation of the Vlasov–Navier–Stokes system for spray/aerosol flows. The distribution function of the dispersed phase is governed by a Vlasov-equation, while the velocity field of the propellant satisfies the Navier–Stokes equations for incompressible fluids. The dynamics of the dispersed phase and of the propellant are coupled through the drag force exerted by the propellant on the dispersed phase. We present a formal derivation of this model from a multiphase Boltzmann system for a binary gaseous mixture, involving the droplets/dust particles in the dispersed phase as one species, and the gas molecules as the other species. Under suitable assumptions on the collision kernels, we prove that the sequences of solutions to the multiphase Boltzmann system converge to distributional solutions to the Vlasov-Navier–Stokes equation in some appropriate distinguished scaling limit. Specifically, we assume (a) that the mass ratio of the gas molecules to the dust particles/droplets is small, (b) that the thermal speed of the dust particles/droplets is much smaller than that of the gas molecules and (c) that the mass density of the gas and of the dispersed phase are of the same order of magnitude. The class of kernels modelling the interaction between the dispersed phase and the gas includes, among others, elastic collisions and inelastic collisions of the type introduced in [F. Charles: in “Proceedings of the 26th International Symposium on Rarefied Gas Dynamics”, AIP Conf. Proc. 1084:409–414, 2008]. [Termes IGN] segmentationRésumé : (auteur) We consider a semi-parametric approach to perform the joint segmentation of multiple series sharing a common functional part. We propose an iterative procedure based on Dynamic Programming for the segmentation part and Lasso estimators for the functional part. Our Lasso procedure, based on the dictionary approach, allows us to both estimate smooth functions and functions with local irregularity, which permits more flexibility than previous proposed methods. This yields to a better estimation of the functional part and improvements in the segmentation. The performance of our method is assessed using simulated data and real data from agriculture and geodetic studies. Our estimation procedure results to be a reliable tool to detect changes and to obtain an interpretable estimation of the functional part of the model in terms of known functions.
