[Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationMots-clés libres : automated cartography route maps symbol placement constraint formulation constraint optimization problem simulated annealing Résumé : (auteur) This paper tackles the representation of routes carried by a physical network infrastructure on a map. In particular, the paper examines the case where each route is represented by a separate colored linear symbol offset from the physical network segments and from other routes—as on public transit maps with bus routes offset from roads. In this study, the objective is to automate the placement of such route symbols while maximizing their legibility, especially at junctions. The problem is modeled as a constraint optimization problem. Legibility criteria are identified and formalized as constraints to optimize, while focusing on the case of hiking routes in a physical network composed of roads and pedestrian paths. Two solving methods are tested, based on backtracking and simulated annealing meta-heuristics respectively. Encouraging results obtained on real data are presented and discussed. Over recent years, two avalanche paths have been used routinely to release avalanches and study avalanche dynamics and interactions between avalanches and obstacles. Avalanche flows are generally dense and dry, sometimes with a powder cloud on top. Main avalanche path no. 2 is dedicated to studies on avalanche dynamics. Within the flow of the avalanche, flow height and vertical profiles of pressure and velocity are measured along a 3.5 m tripod. The snow volume released in the release zone is quantified by differential analysis of laser scanning measurements performed before and after triggering. High-speed positioning of the avalanche front along the track is carried out by terrestrial oblique photogrammetry. Above the dense layer, the upper layer of the avalanche is characterized by particle and air flux measurements. Avalanche path no. 1 is smaller in size and particularly well-suited to experiments on structures exposed to small to medium-size avalanches ( Numéro de notice : A2015--114 Affiliation des auteurs : ENSG+Ext (2012-2019) Thématique : IMAGERIE Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.1016/j.coldregions.2015.03.005 Date de publication en ligne : 18/03/2015 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1016/j.coldregions.2015.03.005 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=90654

[Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationMots-clés libres : Map Generalization Clutter Complexity Cartography Legibility Constraints Scale Résumé : (auteur) Map generalization abstracts and simplifies geographic information to derive maps at smaller scales. The automation of map generalization requires techniques to evaluate the global quality of a generalized map. The quality and legibility of a generalized map is related to the complexity of the map, or the amount of clutter in the map, i.e. the excessive amount of information and its disorganization. Computer vision research is highly interested in measuring clutter in images, and this paper proposes to compare some of the existing techniques from computer vision, applied to generalized maps evaluation. Four techniques from the literature are described and tested on a large set of maps, generalized at different scales: edge density, subband entropy, quad tree complexity, and segmentation clutter. The results are analyzed against several criteria related to generalized maps, the identification of cluttered areas, the preservation of the global amount of information, the handling of occlusions and overlaps, foreground vs background, and blank space reduction. [Termes IGN] stress hydriqueRésumé : (auteur) Even-aged forest stands are competitive communities where competition for light gives advantages to tall individuals, thereby inducing a race for height. These same individuals must however balance this competitive advantage with height-related mechanical and hydraulic risks. These phenomena may induce variations in height–diameter growth relationships, with primary dependences on stand density and tree social status as proxies for competition pressure and access to light, and on availability of local environmental resources, including water. We aimed to investigate the effects of stand density, tree social status and water stress on the individual height–circumference growth allocation (Δh–Δc), in even-aged stands of Quercus petraea Liebl. (sessile oak). Within-stand Δc was used as surrogate for tree social status. We used an original long-term experimental plot network, set up in the species production area in France, and designed to explore stand dynamics on a maximum density gradient. Growth allocation was modelled statistically by relating the shape of the Δh–Δc relationship to stand density, stand age and water deficit. The shape of the Δh–Δc relationship shifted from linear with a moderate slope in open-grown stands to concave saturating with an initial steep slope in closed stands. Maximum height growth was found to follow a typical mono-modal response to stand age. In open-grown stands, increasing summer soil water deficit was found to decrease height growth relative to radial growth, suggesting hydraulic constraints on height growth. A similar pattern was found in closed stands, the magnitude of the effect however lowering from suppressed to dominant trees. We highlight the high phenotypic plasticity of growth in sessile oak trees that further adapt their allocation scheme to their environment. Stand density and tree social status were major drivers of growth allocation variations, while water stress had a detrimental effect on height in the Δh–Δc allocation. [Termes IGN] séismeRésumé : (auteur) Comprehensive quantification of the near-field deformation associated with an earthquake is difficult due to the inherent complexity of surface ruptures. The A.D. 2013 Mw 7.7 Balochistan (Pakistan) earthquake, dominated by left-lateral motion with some reverse component, ruptured a 200-km-long section of the Hoshab fault. We characterize the coseismic rupture in detail along its entire length. Optical and radar satellite images are combined to derive the full three-dimensional far-field displacement (115 m pixel size) and the high-resolution 2.5 m pixel horizontal displacement field resulting from the earthquake. We show that the vertical deformation is significant in several locations.
