[Termes IGN] surveillance de la végétationRésumé : (Auteur) The use of multispectral satellite sensors for generation of hyperspectral indices is restricted because of their coarse spectral resolutions. In this study, we attempted to synthesize a few of these hyperspectral indices, viz. RedEdge Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI705), Plant Senescence Reflectance Index (PSRI) and Normalized-Difference-Infrared-Index (NDII), for crop stress monitoring at regional scale using multispectral images, simulated from Hyperion data. The Hyperion data were resampled and simulated to corresponding spatial and spectral resolutions of AWiFS, OCM-2 and MODIS sensors using their respective filter function. Different possible combinations of two bands (i.e. simple difference, simple ratio and normalized difference) were computed using synthetic spectral bands of each sensor, and were regressed with NDVI705, PSRI and NDII. Models with highest correlation were selected and inverted on Hyperion data of another date to synthesize respective multispectral indices. Synthetic broad band indices of multispectral sensors with their respective narrow band indices of Hyperion were found to be in good agreement. [Termes IGN] polarimétrie radarRésumé : (auteur) The target or polarimetric decomposition is widely used to process multi-polarization SAR imagery to establish a correspondence between physical characteristics of interested objects and observed scattering mechanisms. Polarimetric decomposition parameters are used as the basis for developing new classification methods for analyzing polarimetric SAR data. This study proposes to combine two polarimetric decomposition parameters (entropy (H) and angle (α)) derived from the Cloude and Pottier decomposition method and total scattered power (Span) in crop type identification. Support vector machine (SVM) classification algorithm was selected as a classifier to resolve limitations of classifications based on polarimetric decomposition parameters. The advantages of the proposed method are determined by comparing with other commonly used methods based on polarimetric features and the results produced from the coherency matrix, i.e., without target decomposition. Results show that the proposed method is about 10 percent better than other methods based on polarimetric features without Span, and it outperforms the result from the coherency matrix with about 4 percent improvement in the overall accuracy. [Termes IGN] zone ruraleRésumé : (Auteur) Temporal decorrelation is one of the main limitations of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) interferometry. For nonurban areas, its mechanism is very complex, as it is very dependent of vegetation types and their temporal dynamics, actual land use, soil types, and climatological circumstances. Yet, an a priori assessment and comprehension of the expected coherence levels of interferograms are required for designing new satellite missions (in terms of frequency, resolution, and repeat orbits), for choosing the optimal data sets for a specific application, and for feasibility studies for new interferometric applications. Although generic models for temporal decorrelation have been proposed, their parameters depend heavily on the land use in the area of interest. Here, we report the behavior of temporal decorrelation for a specific class of land use: pasture on drained peat soils. We use L-, C-, and X-band SAR observations from the Advanced Land Observation Satellite (ALOS), European Remote Sensing Satellite, Envisat, RADARSAT-2, and TerraSAR-X missions. We present a dedicated temporal decorrelation model using three parameters and demonstrate how coherent information can be retrieved as a function of frequency, repeat intervals, and coherence estimation window sizes. New satellites such as Sentinel-1 and ALOS-2, with shorter repeat intervals than their predecessors, would enhance the possibility to obtain a coherent signal over pasture.
