[Vedettes matières IGN] CartologieRésumé : (auteur) [début] The use of cartographic representations among people with visual impairments (PVI) is often limited by the lack of available materials. However, two uses have been identified: diagrams made with sticks magnetised to a metal plate (Figure 1) are used by Orientation and Mobility instructors as a discussion aid around complex areas (typically intersections), and more accurate maps made by transcribing adapters are sometimes produced for regular use. While classical variations of the generalisation and stylisation approaches allow for the production of fairly accurate maps [JLCJ21], for example from OpenStreetMap data (figure 2), there are currently no known approaches to producing a more schematic representation, in the manner of the locomotion instructors’ magnets. [Termes IGN] milieu urbainRésumé : (auteur) Wildlife present in urban environments uses the space as shaped by human infrastructures and activities (Jokimäki et al., 2011). Landscape planning has to take into account animals’ space use so that to enable good ecological functioning and to identify places of interface between wildlife and human, particularly relevant in the management of zoonosis (Plumer et al., 2014). Meeting this need remains a challenge due to the scarcity of animals’ data and their dependency on specific collect contexts (the observed animal, its personality, the area, recording parameters). Our study case deals with red fox (Vulpes vulpes) in the city of Nancy in eastern France. Our aim is to propose a map of landscape elements that would be selected according to their potential influence on the species’ space use (Burel et al., 1999). This influence may be attractiveness for the presence of animals, or avoidance. It may also correspond to corridors or obstacles to movements. The edition of such map implied integrating multi-theme and multi-source geographical data, about physical landscape description, human activities, animals’ locations, and from institutional databases, crowd-sourcing, local expert studies and ad-hoc data collections (Zhang et al., 2019). The targeted integration result was a set of geometrical parcels characterized into two distinct classifications on land cover types and human land uses. Labels in the classifications were defined relying on the analysis of red foxes’ GPS locations (Robardet, 2007) which highlighted specific landscape elements to consider (vegetation patches, railways, property boundaries which might be fences, walls) and temporalities related to daytime and night time and to individual rhythms. Validation is based on a comparison between the resulted map and reference data based on field survey and visual interpretation of images. The map stands as a display of the space interpreted with a landscape planning objective and requiring regular updating. [Termes IGN] surveillance hydrologiqueRésumé : (auteur) Changes in groundwater levels associated with hydroclimatic variations and anthropogenic water extraction can deform the solid Earth, both elastically and inelastically. Satellite-based geodetic techniques which measure the Earth’s surface displacements can thus be used to track changing conditions in aquifer systems. However, accurately extracting groundwater-induced deformation signals still poses a challenge as geodetic techniques like GNSS and InSAR also record noise, systematic errors and other sources of deformation. In this study, we take advantage of the relatively dense in situ groundwater monitoring network of the Sacramento Valley aquifer in California to constrain its deformation and hydromechanical properties. We start by characterizing the main seasonal and multiannual fluctuations in groundwater levels with an Independent Component Analysis (ICA) and exploit the resulting temporal signature to extract the associated deformation field from GNSS and InSAR time series. We then develop a poroelastic model of the aquifer to invert for its elastic storage capacity and estimate the respective contributions of elastic and inelastic processes to long-term subsidence. Our modeling also suggests that depth-dependent elastic properties are necessary to explain the spatial distribution of horizontal poroelastic displacements measured by GNSS. This work has important implications for the sustainable management of heavily-stressed Californian aquifers but also serves as a calibration between in situ and remote sensing techniques, which is essential for the successful deployment of satellite-based groundwater monitoring in areas with sparse field-based instrumentation.
