[Termes IGN] traitement de données localiséesRésumé : (auteur) Mobile sensors are increasingly used to monitor air quality to accurately quantify human exposure to air pollution. These sensors are subject to various issues (misuse, malfunctions, battery problems, etc) that are likely to cause data quality problems. These quality problems may have a considerable impact on the reliability of analytical studies. In this work, we address the problem of data quality evaluation and improvement in mobile crowd-sensing environments. Our work is focused on the data completeness quality dimension. We introduce a multi-dimensional model to represent the data coming from the sensors in this context, and then present the different facets of data completeness inspired by the model. We propose quality indicators capturing different facets of completeness along with their corresponding quality metrics. We also propose an approach to improve data completeness by extending two existing data imputation techniques, SVDImpute and KNNImpute, with information about the sensor quality. Our experiments show that our quality-aware imputation approach improves the accuracy of the imputation achieved by the original techniques. [Termes IGN] station GNSSRésumé : (auteur) Phase center offsets (PCOs) of global navigation satellites systems (GNSS) transmit antennas along the boresight axis introduce line-of-sight-dependent range changes in the modeling of GNSS observations that are strongly correlated with the estimated station heights. As a consequence, changes in the adopted PCOs impact the scale of GNSS-based realizations of the terrestrial reference frame (TRF). Vice versa, changes in the adopted TRF scale require corrections to the GNSS transmit antenna PCOs for consistent observation modeling. Early studies have determined an approximate value of α=−0.050 for the ratio of station height changes and satellite PCO changes in GPS orbit determination and phase center adjustment. However, this is mainly an empirical value and limited information is available on the actual PCO-scale relation and how it is influenced by other factors. In view of the recurring need to adjust the IGS antenna models to new ITRF scales, a semi-analytical model is developed to determine values of α for the four current GNSSs from first principles without a need for actual network data processing. Given the close coupling of satellite boresight angle and station zenith angle, satellite PCO changes are essentially compensated by a combination of station height, zenith troposphere delay, and receiver clock offset. As such, the value of α depends not only on the orbital altitude of the considered GNSS but also on the elevation-dependent distribution of GNSS observations and their weighting, as well as the elevation mask angle and the tropospheric mapping function. Based on the model, representative values of αGPS=−0.051, αGLO=−0.055, αGAL=−0.041, and αBDS-3=−0.046 are derived for GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and BeiDou-3 at a 10∘ elevation cutoff angle. These values may vary by Δα≈0.003 depending on the specific model assumptions and data processing parameters in a precise orbit determination or precise point positioning. Likewise changes of about ±0.003 can be observed when varying the cutoff angle between 5∘ and 15∘. [Termes IGN] image Sentinel-SARRésumé : (auteur) Considering the importance of accurate and up-to-date land use/cover (LULC) maps and in a situation of fast LULC changes, an accurate mapping of complex landscapes requires real-time high-resolution remote sensed data and powerful classification algorithms. The new ESA Copernicus satellites Sentinel-1 (S-1) and Sentinel-2 (S-2) have contributed to the effective monitoring of the Earth’s surface. This paper aims at assessing the potential of mono-temporal S-1 and S-2 satellite images and three common classification algorithms including maximum likelihood (ML), support vector machine (SVM), and random forest (RF) for LULC classification. The research methodology consists of a sequence of tasks including data collection and preprocessing, the extraction of texture and spectral features, the definition of several feature set configurations, classification, and accuracy assessment. Based on the results, using S-1 data alone leads to quite poor results, even though dual polarimetric C-band and texture features increased the classification accuracy. The S-2 data outperformed the S-1 data in terms of overall and class level accuracies. A combined use of S-1 and S-2 satellite images involving extracted features from both sources led to the best result for identifying all classes. This emphasizes the critical importance of using multi-modal datasets and different features in the LULC classification. Among classification algorithms, the SVM led to the highest accuracies irrespective of the dataset. To sum it up, according to the applied methodology and results, S-1 and S-2 data can provide optimal and up-to-date information for LULC mapping using non-parametric classifiers as SVM or RF. [Termes IGN] variation saisonnièreRésumé : (auteur) Seasonal deformation related to mass redistribution on the Earth’s surface can be recorded by continuous global navigation satellite system (GNSS) and simulated by surface loading models. It has been reported that obvious discrepancies exist in the seasonal deformation between GNSS estimates and modeled loading displacements, especially in the horizontal components. The three-dimensional seasonal deformation of 900 GNSS stations derived from the International GNSS Service (IGS) second reprocessing are compared with those obtained from geophysical loading models. The reduction ratio of the weighted mean amplitude of GNSS seasonal signals induced by loading deformation correction is adopted to evaluate the consistency of seasonal deformation between them. Results demonstrate that about 43% of GNSS-derived vertical annual deformation can be explained by the loading models, while in the horizontal components, it is less than 20%. To explore the remaining GNSS seasonal variations unexplained by loading models, the potential contributions from Inter-AC disagreement, GNSS draconitic errors, regional/local-scale loading and loading model errors are investigated also using the reduction ratio metric. Comparison of GNSS annual signals between each IGS analysis center (AC) and the IGS combined solutions indicate that more than 25% (horizontal) and 10% (vertical) of the annual discrepancies between GNSS and loading models can be attributed to Inter-AC disagreement caused by different data processing software implementations and/or choices of the analysis strategies. Removing the draconitic errors shows an improvement of about ~ 3% in the annual vertical reduction ratio for the stations with more than fifteen years observations. Moreover, significant horizontal discrepancies between GNSS and loading models are found for the stations located in Continental Europe, which may be dominated by the regional/local-scale loading. The loading model errors can explain at least 6% of the remaining GNSS annual variations in the East and Up components. It has been verified that the contribution of thermoelastic deformation to the GNSS seasonal variations is about 9% and 7% for the horizontal and vertical directions, respectively. Apart from these contributors, there are still ~ 50% (horizontal) and ~ 30% (vertical) of the GNSS annual variations that need to be explained. [Vedettes matières IGN] Végétation et changement climatiqueRésumé : (auteur) National Forest Inventories (NFIs) perform systematic forest surveys across space and time. They are hence powerful tools to understand climate controls on forest growth at wide geographical scales and account for the effects of local abiotic and biotic interactions. To investigate the effects of climate change upon growth dynamics of four major European conifer species along elevation and continentality gradients, we herein provide an original harmonization of the French and Austrian NFI datasets. The growth of Norway spruce, Scots pine, silver fir and European larch over the 1996–2016 period was studied in pure and even-aged plots across different ecological regions. We derived climate-driven growth trends from > 65, 000 radial increment series filtered out from major biotic and abiotic influences using statistical modeling. We further identified primary environmental drivers of conifer growth by regressing growth trends against regionally aggregated biotic and abiotic forest attributes. Negative growth trends were observed in continental regions undergoing the most rapid warming and thermal amplitude contraction over the study period. Negative trends were also associated with lower forest structural heterogeneity and, surprisingly, with greater available water capacity. Remarkably, we observed these associations both at the inter- and intra-species levels, suggesting the universality of these primary growth determinants. Our study shows that harmonized NFI data at the transnational level provide reliable information on climate–growth interactions. Here, greater forest structural complexity and greater water resource limitation were highlighted as drivers of greater forest resilience to climate change at large-scale. This result forms crucial bases to implementing climate-smart forest management.
