[Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) In recent years, geographic information systems have gained greater acceptance in both the public and private sectors As this occurs, it means that GIS will play an increasingly larger role in our lives, whether we are aware of it or not. These days, GIS is used for applications as varied as natural resources and urban planning, routing delivery vehicles (both locally and cross-country), analyzing crime data for the purpose of catching criminals, and planning national election campaign strategies. The many and varied applications of GIS have significant implications for us, both individually and as members of society. It is imperative that we gain an understanding of these implications.
