[Termes IGN] variabilitéRésumé : (auteur) The automatic classification of urban materials from airborne and spatial acquisitions remains difficult today because of two main reasons: the spatial resolution of the images and the need for pre-processing algorithms to extract ground surface intrinsic properties. This work examines the feasibility of using 8 spectral information distributed in the visible and the near-infrared spectral regions (0.4 - 1 μm), acquired at a 20 cm spatial resolution, for recognizing the urban materials. The motivation for this study is the development of very high spatial resolution sensors which has introduced a promising capability for the study of urban areas. In this study , an experiment campaign took place in Toulouse. The airborne measurements were carried out using 8 cameras associated with 8 narrow filters (30 nm). Ground spectral measurements of Toulouse's urban materials were performed within the configuration of the airborne acquisitions. These measurements allow us to determine and quantify three types of reflectance spatial variability. The results show that urban materials have low reflectances with no significant spectral features and are then difficult to discriminate. To determine which material classes could be discriminate over the 8 spectral bands of the airborne acquisitions, a statistical analysis was performed on the ground measurements. This analysis highlights that 5 material classes could be discriminated from good quality measurements. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) The approach described in this paper is intended for 3D building reconstruction on large and dense urban areas. It provides a real-time solution for automatic inferring of polyhedral rooftops of buildings from cadastral maps and aerial images. From the initial planimetric outline and hypotheses of planes inferred from it, a set of rooftop models depending on two parameters (slope and gutter altitude) is extracted through maximal cliques enumeration methodology. Among this family, the best representation is chosen by centered correlation on Digital Elevation Model computed by correlation from aerial images. Finally, slope and altitude are determined by minimization. Some results on real data show the validity of the algorithm that favors robustness against generality and is designed for integration in a semi-automatic platform for 3D urban databases constitution. [Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (auteur) The paper focuses on comparing accuracies obtained with photogrammetry and laser scanning in building extraction. The objective of the EuroSDR Building Extraction comparison was to evaluate the quality, accuracy, feasibility and economical aspects of semi automatic building extraction based on photogrammetric techniques with the emphasis on commercial and/or operative systems, semi-automatic and automatic building extraction techniques based on high density laser scanner data and semi-automatic and automatic building extraction techniques based on integration of laser scanner data and aerial images. The project consists of three test sites by the Finnish Geodetic Institute (FGI), namely Senaatti, Hermanni and Espoonlahti, and one test site by the Institut Geographique National (IGN), namely Amiens. For each test site following data was provided to the partners: aerial images, camera calibration and image orientation information, ground control point coordinates and jpg images of point locations (not for Amiens), laser scanner data and cadastral map vectors of selected buildings. Participants were requested to create vectors of 3D city models. 3D-models were obtained from 11 participants. The paper confirms with experiments that laser scanning is superior in deriving building heights, extracting planar roof faces and ridges of the roof, whereas photogrammetry and aerial images are superior in building outline and length determination. [Termes IGN] zone urbaine denseRésumé : (auteur) During the past decades 3D building extraction has been a constant topic of research for several universities and cartographic or photogrammetric institutes because there was a great demand for 3D city models in commercial applications. These applications move from electromagnetic propagation for telecommunication to more demanding simulations for acoustic, urban planning, virtual and augmented reality. In most cases, 3D complete roof shapes are required. Year after year radiometric quality and geometric accuracy of new high resolution satellites keep on improving so much so satellite imagery become a real potential solution for the production of such 3D models. This present paper studies the potential of the CNES (French Spatial Agency) Pleiades-HR system, ready to launch in 2007, for the 3D city models production in the case of 2D ground maps availability. First because this Pleiades-HR system, able to acquire tristereoscopic high-resolution panchromatic images, seems well adapted for 3D applications. Secondly because 2D ground maps are now available in many countries, especially in dense urban areas, and are very useful for the automation of the reconstruction process. For the present evaluation very fine image simulations provided by the CNES are used, in addition to 2D ground plans that come from the French cadastral database. The 3D models have been produced with an operational framework able to reconstruct buildings from optical images and 2D ground plans. A 3D reference has been acquired from aerial images with a resolution of 25cm. This reference allows to evaluate from qualitative and quantitative points of view the 3D reconstruction. Finally, the quality of 3D city models produced from the Pleiades-HR images will be discussed in terms of levels of details, geometric accuracy, exhaustiveness and productivity. [Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (auteur) Airborne laser systems are nowadays well-known to provide regular and accurate altimetric data. The aim of this paper is to investigate the potential of using extracted features from a Lidar 3D point cloud for data fusion purpose through an hybrid image segmentation algorithm. The general context of this study is the building reconstruction. We first describe an efficient algorithm for extracting 3D planar primitives from a laser survey over urban areas. It is based on a normal driven random sample consensus (ND-RANSAC) which consists of randomly selecting sets of three points within laser points sharing the same orientation of normal vectors. A robust plane is then estimated with laser points that are likely to belong to the real roof facet. The number of random draws is managed automatically with a statistical analysis of the distribution of normal vectors within an approximation of the Gaussian sphere of the scene. These 3D facets are then introduced into an image segmentation algorithm based on a bottom-up region merging scheme. Initial regions are computed by a watershed transform onto the gradient of the aerial image. Regions adjacency are represented with a Region Adjacency Graph (RAG). Series of successive merging generates a hierarchy of RAGs where edges are mutual inclusion relationships. The process terminated when the entire image is represented as a single region. A cut in the hierarchy provides a desired image partition. Results of the facet extractions as well as of the segmentation are shown and discussed.
