[Termes IGN] StéréopolisRésumé : (auteur) The growing deployment of multi-head camera systems encouraged the emergence of specific processing algorithms, able to face the challenges posed by slanted view geometry. Such multi-camera systems are rigidly tied by their manufacturers hence the exploitation of this internal constraint should be further exploited. Several approaches have been proposed to deal with orientation constraints, with the aim of reducing the number of unknowns, computational time and possibly improve the accuracy. In this paper we compare the results provided by publicly available implementations in order to further investigate the advantages of enforcing relative orientation constraints for aerial and terrestrial triangulation of multi-head camera systems. Data from a Leica CityMapper and a Stereopolis-Ladybug are considered, reporting how constrained solution can improve accuracy with respect to traditional (unconstrained) bundle block adjustment solutions. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (auteur) This article presents how a generative adversarial network (GAN) can be employed to produce a generalised map that combines several cartographic themes in the dense context of urban areas. We use as input detailed buildings, roads, and rivers from topographic datasets produced by the French national mapping agency (IGN), and we expect as output of the GAN a legible map of these elements at a target scale of 1:50,000. This level of detail requires to reduce the amount of information while preserving patterns; covering dense inner cities block by a unique polygon is also necessary because these blocks cannot be represented with enlarged individual buildings. The target map has a style similar to the topographic map produced by IGN. This experiment succeeded in producing image tiles that look like legible maps. It also highlights the impact of data and representation choices on the quality of predicted images, and the challenge of learning geographic relationships. [Termes IGN] variation saisonnièreMots-clés libres : Pteridium aquilinum Résumé : (auteur) In this study, a dense Copernicus Sentinel-1 time series is analyzed to gain a better understanding of the influence of undergrowth vegetation, in particular of eagle fern (Pteridium aquilinum), on the C-band SAR signal in a temperate forest in the Free State of Thuringia, Germany. Even if signals from the ground below the canopy may not be expected at C-band, previous studies showed seasonal fluctuations of the backscatter for temperate forests without canopy closure, notably for evergreen coniferous stands. Many factors can be responsible for these observed fluctuations, but in this study, we analyze one possible factor: the presence of undergrowth vegetation, in particular, of fern. Especially, the Sentinel-1 backscatter signal is analyzed for different acquisition configurations regarding its temporal and its spatial stability at different growth stages. This time series study shows that a difference of backscattered signal of up to 0.7 dB exists between forest patches with a dense fern density in the understory and the ones with low undergrowth vegetation. This signal difference depends on the season and is remarkably strong comparing winter (no fern undergrowth) with summer (major fern undergrowth). [Termes IGN] régression linéaireRésumé : (auteur) In this paper, we investigate the use of machine-learning techniques in order to produce harmonised surface reflectances between Sentinel-2 and Pleiades images, and reduce the impact of the differences in sensors, view conditions, and atmospheric correction differences between them. We demonstrate that if a simple linear regression considering Sentinel-2 surface reflectances as the target domain can overcome this problem when both images are calibrated to Top of Canopy reflectances, the non-linearity brought by a simple Multi-Layer-Perceptron is already useful when Pleiades is corrected to Top of Atmosphere level and contributions of the atmosphere need to be learned. We also demonstrate that learning a Convolution Neural Network instead of a plain MLP can learn undesired spatial effects such as mis-registration or differences in spatial frequency content, that will affect the image quality of the corrected Pleiades product. We overcome this issue by proposing an adhoc input convolutional layer that will capture those effects and can later be unplugged during inference. Last, we also propose an architecture and loss function that is robust to unmasked clouds and produces a confidence prediction during inference. [Termes IGN] reconstruction 3DRésumé : (auteur) Stereo dense matching is a fundamental task for 3D scene reconstruction. Recently, deep learning based methods have proven effective on some benchmark datasets, for example Middlebury and KITTI stereo. However, it is not easy to find a training dataset for aerial photogrammetry. Generating ground truth data for real scenes is a challenging task. In the photogrammetry community, many evaluation methods use digital surface models (DSM) to generate the ground truth disparity for the stereo pairs, but in this case interpolation may bring errors in the estimated disparity. In this paper, we publish a stereo dense matching dataset based on ISPRS Vaihingen dataset, and use it to evaluate some traditional and deep learning based methods. The evaluation shows that learning-based methods outperform traditional methods significantly when the fine tuning is done on a similar landscape. The benchmark also investigates the impact of the base to height ratio on the performance of the evaluated methods. The dataset can be found in https://github.com/whuwuteng/benchmark_ISPRS2021.
