[Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (auteur) Many research works in map generalisation are applied to building and network themes. Several generalisation models, such as the agent-based generalisation model of Ruas and Duchêne (2007), on which this paper focuses, have been designed and successfully put to use for these themes. Our purpose is to take into account field themes (relief, land use cover, etc.): many relationships exist between these themes and other objects and should therefore be preserved during the generalisation process. The GAEL model has been set up to enable this. This paper presents the modelling of relationships between objects (buildings, roads, etc.) and fields, and their integration into the agent-based generalisation process of Ruas and Duchêne (2007) for their preservation. The principle is to allow each geographic agent to asses the state of its relationships with fields, and possibly to apply a specific treatment, such as a field deformation or a displacement of itself, in order to preserve their relationships. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (auteur) This paper describes the set up and the progress of the EuroSDR project that studies the state-of-the-art in automated map generalisation implemented in commercial out-of-the-box software. The project started in October 2006 with a project team consisting of National Mapping Agencies (NMAs) and research institutes. From October 2006 till May 2007 four test cases of four different NMAs were selected, consisting of a large scale source data set, requirements for the smaller scale output map as well as symbolisation information. Much effort has been put in specifying and harmonising requirements for the output maps. These requirements have been defined as a set of constraints to be respected in the output maps. From June 2007 the project team tested the four test cases with four commercial out-of-the-box software systems: ArcGIS, Genesys, Change/Push/Typify and Clarity. The vendors of these systems performed parallel tests on the four test cases in which they were allowed to customise their systems. An evaluation methodology has been designed and partly implemented. Results are expected by the end of 2008. Titre : A transition from simplification to generalisation of natural occurring lines Type de document : Article/Communication Auteurs : Byron Nakos, Auteur ; Julien Gaffuri , Auteur ; Sébastien Mustière , Auteur Editeur : International Cartographic Association ICA - Association cartographique internationale ACI Année de publication : 2008 Conférence : ICA 2008, 12th ICA Workshop, Commission on Map Generalisation and Multiple Representation 20/06/2008 21/06/2008 Montpellier France OA Proceedings Importance : 9 p. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (auteur) Some introductory aspects for the design of a software able to generalise natural occurring lines are analysed and discussed. Such a system should be characterised by four elements. First it should incorporate a method of line segmentation into parts based on visual legibility principles. The application of any algorithm should be controlled by tolerances values depended on the character of each line-part expressed with appropriate measures. Such a software should incorporate algorithms able to perform not only the simplification or smoothing operators, but also a more wide range of operators, i.e. exaggeration, typification, enhancement or any combination of them. Finally, some characteristics of the software’s platform are discussed in terms of effectiveness. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (auteur) The use of multiple representations of the same data is a common requirement for several purposes of the implemented geographical information system studies. However these representations should be produced by considering the requirements of the system user. In practice, car navigation process also requires multiple representations as user interfaces of different phases of the navigation process. For such use, the user basically requires interact with well designed maps, which represent the real world as accurately as possible, for succeeding the navigation task comfortably and also easily in an unfamiliar environment. Covering this
requirement is merely possible when generalizing the road data by considering the possible manoeuvres that the user will do while navigating. This study proposes an approach, which aims to increase the accuracy of the navigation maps by designing them depending on the navigation route calculated in navigation process, to succeed in this task.
