[Termes IGN] télédétection en hyperfréquenceRésumé : (Auteur) The Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Centre - OPOLIS in co-operation with NOAA/NESDIS Satellite Laboratory in Washington and ESA has conducted multidisciplinary studies on impacts of environment on agriculture with application of remote sensing data for several years. Research activities included vegetation monitoring using NOAA/AVHRR as well as high resolution ERS-2.SAR data. Recently, a successful attempt was launched to use low resolution AVHRR data for early drought detection in Poland. NOAA images have been used to derive Temperature Condition Index (TCI) characterising the status of crop development. TCI index represents the relation between actual weekly value of temperature and the temperature, which occurred during both favourable and stress crop growing conditions in the last decade. The differences in TCI values and their spatial distribution for the whole country give information where and when the drought has started and how intensive it was. The research also demonstrated that backscattering coefficient calculated from ERS-1/2.SAR data characterises soil moisture condition and can be used for drought detection. Our research has been conducted for cereals and validated through detailed ground measurements. This paper presents the results obtained for 1992 (drought conditions), 1994 (mean moisture conditions) and 1998 (favourable moisture conditions) for cereals. [Termes IGN] sécheresseRésumé : (Auteur) In this work, we combine spatial data from a Digital Forest Map of Spain, the Second National Forest Inventory and TM images to explore the differences in the spectral response of several vegetation types in three years with strong differences in water availability. The results point to the possibility of discrimination between dry and humid years based on the NDVI, although drought conditions affect in different ways to the several vegetation types. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Each year, millions of tons of forests and savannah all over the world are destroyed. Animal and plant species disappear as a result of deforestation and fires caused by nature and human activity. This drastic reduction in forests has had an adverse impact on the delicate global ecosystem. Using NOAA AHVRR imagery, manipulated by ERDAS Imagine software, a study has been completed to identify, assess and differennate between forests that remain intact and forests that are on fire, or damaged areas in the Central African Republic. Vector and raster data were overlaid to provide a simple, but effective, Geographical Information System. [Termes IGN] interféromètrie par radar à antenne synthétiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Scalar formulation of metric relations having relevance to satellite topographic interferometry served as a basis for several original concepts, which provided an important aid for significant methodological improvements and simplification to the main operations of the INSAR data processing, including flat terrain phase correction, interferometric phase unwrapping and differential analysis. Topographic heights and slopes of several of the largest ice caps in Franz Josef Land, Russian High Arctic were derived from the repeat-pass INSAR data acquired in September and October 1995 without previous phase unwrapping yet without compromising on accuracy. [Termes IGN] VénézuelaRésumé : (Auteur) This paper describes progress in the development of a landslide susceptibility model which is based on slope stability equations. Using a test area in the Venezuelan Andes, we show how model inputs can be derived from suitably pre-processed Landsat TM data and maps of the area. Pre-processing steps include geometric and terrain corrections. A combination of unsupervised and supervised classification algorithms is applied to the corrected TM data to derive a land cover map. The paper concludes with a summary of future research activity.
